Coming along nicely. Got some dead trees cut down so things don't come unexpectedly from above. Felled a couple of oaks to turn into the stands for the houseboat and put them in the ground. Solid as a rock and ready to have to boat put on top. Some brush cutting and set up the camper for now. Heading back down to the big pond to work and earn some money. Then head back up the end of next week and carry on with the homestead shenanigans. I need a little tractor and a big thank you to Loyd who came by today to lend a hand.

Your welcome Scuba, I enjoyed the visit. You have beautiful place. Be safe going back home. Let me know when you get back to town. Oh yea I've got the tractor covered if you need it when you get back.

Thank you for the offer. A buddy of mine likes to hunt around on craigslist and places like it. Thats how I got that flatbed trailer picked that up in Georgia for little money and its in good shape. . I am trying to get him to find someone that has a surplus small tractor and needs a motorbike. He loves that sort of stuff.

I'll probably get back up here on Thursday in a week. When I get back from getting that boat from lake okeechobee to Hilton Head. Then I'll bring up the workshop trailer on that run.

Sharps Chapel in Union county.

Had a good rain storm last night So I guess with that downpour, those pile I put in are now set good and proper. Today is mostly clearing tools away, Load the truck and tomorrow first thing I am heading back to the beach to work for other people. Then come back here the weekend after next with the mobile workshop getting that set up. The big move is going to be on the 18th when the boat is getting hauled out for her last time and getting trucked up to the spot on the hill.

Well now we know why the thing that is driving it is called an infernal combustion engine. I sent my missus back to the boat before I started messing with that thing. In cases like thins I can do all the chuckling by my lonesome thank you very much

I just did the 7 hour drive back to the beach. Fix a sail boat and get a cruiser Yacht from FL to here, then load up and head back up there for a few days. Do a couple of needed repairs on the camper trailer and slab up one oak tree to build steps out of for the boat once it is on its spot. And I have to find and cut a bunch of fire wood for the stove on board. Is it still called on board once the houseboat sits on land ?? On the way down I went past a friends place and picked up some stuff he had no need for like a couple of shovels and 2 axe heads a pitch fork and now that I am done with the holes , a manual post hole digger and a couple of saw horses.

i still work on the water. Once a month I do the 7 hour drive down here to work for a week or 10 days then spend the rest of the month up in the hills doing my thing. Got to earn some money for nails and stuff. I did not take many pics worth posting and did one flight with the drone but forgot to bring it down with my to get the video and pics of it. I'll bring it back down next time.

I forgot the drone again. It was a bit nippy up there the last two nights and I just got back. Bought a little tractor to help with the work on the place, took some measurements on it and will be breaking out the welder and angle grinder to make a lifting boom for the 3 point on the little thing to lift stuff and generally move things around. Also took the little boat up and parked it there for now.

It has a couple of things on it I need to sort out but works fine as is. I'll spend a bit more time on it once we are up there proper and not so much in a rush. But little by little things are coming together.

Looking good one thing I would do is look for some weights for the tractor maybe not rear end but at least front weights if your going to build a small boom, even a rock box full of rocks or heavy boat anchors. smile

Thats a good idea Bob. I'll go back up again on Friday or Saturday and will then have my Workshop trailer in tow. I also spotted a Scrap yard not to far away from out place. Once I have my tools there and some metal .... cue the A team music and watch things happen grin

Good time for you to buy scrap iron here is going for 20 dollars a ton, so get creative.

I am going to pull the engines out of the houseboat and the seized up Onan generator ...... thats 20 bucks right there to swap for other scrap grin Anyway there is no real scrap. Its just a lack of creativity. Next year I am going to fabricobble a gas powered bandsaw together that will fir on my 20' flatbed trailer. And yup it will mostly be made from "scrap"

The missus and the cats have left and headed up to Camp Scuba. I stayed behind for now as I have a bunch of work to finish of here at the marina. I'll head up for a long weekend, come back on Tuesday then bring the big boat to the marina that can haul her out and have her trucked up next monday . Then I'll head back up till the first week in December when I have to come back down for a week to work.
No pictures of stuffing cats into crates for transport as that in itself was stressful enough without farting around with a camera.

Ground a bit to a haul Friday because of snow, but that white stuff gave me the opportunity to look for some tracks and do an inventory of what is roaming the property ( other than that strange lawn mower and camera )
I fabricobbled a lifting boom for the tractor, made some choker chains and cut a few dead standing trees down and hauled them to the camp for fire wood, I found a big underground tank with what looks like a float switch a blue red and black wire in it and a 1 steel pipe. So there may even be a well on the place and that needs further investigation though I have not figured out how as yet
But at least the tank is full and so I converted my little boat trailer into a tanker to take water to the camper and the boat without having to drive down to the spring for now.
Ill post some pics tomorrow when I gat back to the marina as I only have my phone here this time round
Too the weed wicker down to the creek and cut a 150 yard shooting lane to
Play at for now. Ill make it longer later when I have some more time I also but up a couple of hundred feet of fence around the camper, so the cats can come out and get some air.Pulling my workshop trailer up to here from Hilton Head took a bit of towing as it must have gained some weight over the last couple of years
But now that I have it here, things are a bit easier like making new batterie cables for the tractor and things like that are now minutes instead of hours of work

From what I hear , this snow is a freak incident and it usually does
Not get winter there till January but I am still taking out all the easy dead standing trees close by for fire wood now to have the place warm when it gets nippy out

I have enough dead standing oak and hickory dispersed over the place that I can harvest on the stump seasoned wood for a while I think
Its ready to use as far as moisture content goes
Just wish it was of the self splitting variety. But it looks like I have to fall buck and split it myself before it will heat the place

Just got back to the marina after an interesting drive. I made it about 90 minutes out of Sharps chapel when the better half texted me that there was no electrickery in the camper but the generator was running. after chatting for ten minutes I got the notion and was right that the GCFE switch was faulty, so turned around and fixed that before getting back on the road again.
Anyway here are the pics I said I would post when I got to my laptop. The lifting boom for I made for the tractor works just fine and some general stuff of the camp as its getting busy there now with stuff. Need to get the fire wood situation sorted ASAP

Looking good so far. I found a vertical splitter worked best for me. Saves the back. Roll the big rounds to it then stand em on end.

I stay vertical when I split wood unless I miss. Does that count ?? Yeppers run ... snow makes it easy for sure. Found deer and turkey track that Ray Charles could have spotted in the brush like this. The bit that surprised me a little was even with the amount of hickory and oaks, there is not a big number of squirrels about. But they could be keeping their head down with the cold snap at the moment.

Don't buy County line brand of wood splitter from Tractor Supply. Total piece of rubbish. Give me 3-4 top of the line splitting mauls over a junk wood splitter.

Well I am pooped. The truck with Tessie arrived late yesterday and got himself stuck 100 feet from where she needed to go. He went just a little to far over the crest of the hills and put the belly of the trailer in the dirt then after a couple of back and forth the trailer tires settled into the ground and that was that. Early this morning at first light we pulled him out with 2 tractors. Then he missed the spot where I put the piles in and hit every one minus 2 but was to far to one side for those two to be usable. It took us 4 hours to get the boat of the truck with nothing but cut trees and bottle jacks and the back end ended up 6 feet of the deck to get the truck out. Once they were gone I started to lower the boat down bit by bit and quit when it got dark. Another couple of 3 hours tomorrow of jacking it up, cutting stumps and lowering it don onto them in a merry go round kind of way should have her in her spot.

I have no pics of the truck and stuff but the admiral has some on her phone and I'll get them off her in a day or 3 once I have the boat settled

She still has to come down some 18 inches but its raining today and the ground is not conducive for that kind of work when its wet. So I'll leave her as is for now till things dry up again. She is around 50.000 pounds and I do not want to drop her. And there is only me and 3 bottle jack and a chain saw doing what needs done. So today I'll put in my mail box at the road sharpen some chains and clear the site up a bit as it looks a little chaotic out there right now with bits of looks all over the place fixed in with straps and chains and wedges. But this boat transport was the last time that I was dependent on other people to do something for me. From here on in I am back to my usual self reliance and that makes me feel a lot more at ease for sure. Things may at time not go as quick when doing them alone but on the other hand I don't have to wait on others either when something needs done. At this point I am literally a happy camper.

I understand the unforeseen details of moving a large object like Tess with precise placement. Once you have her just so, the possibilities in use are amazing.

Well done, Michael.

Her last trip on the water. Towed her the 11 miles from Skull Creek Marina to Palmetto bay for her last haul out as the travel lift at Scull Creek was not big enough and she would not fit into the lift well either.
I know the sequence of the pics in this thread is a little muddled up, but its raining and I have a little time now so here they are.

The funny thing was that unknown to all of us till the time we sat at the camp fire together with the truck stuck for the night, That 11 years ago it was the same 2 people that trucked her up from Tennessee to Maryland in a freak snow storm in MD ...... What are the odds of that happening. She did not have a name at that time, So the guys did not know what they were hauling back up to TN

No I'll take them out and sell them and use the engine compartments as stow room. I have electrickery on the property and am waiting for the guys from the electro wrks to show up and figure out how to tap those poles to get some of that stuff. I already have 3 generators and currently have the camper and the boat plugged into one of them.

She is in her final spot as of this evening. Took some doing with the wet soft ground I was pushing stumps into the ground instead of lifting the boat. Had a couple of chain hoists secured to close by trees to stop her from tipping and sliding and those things needed constant adjustment. But after a long day of pumping jacks and cranking hoists, it is done. Also got the stove back in its spot , some fire wood chopped and the stove pipe re installed and sealed in the roof. So now we have heat as well. Tomorrow we move back over to her, crank the water heater up and have the first hot shower in a week. Washing with a cold bowl of water when its in the 30's. Looking forward to that. Going to knock up some temporary step to get on board tomorrow as well and get rid of the step ladder. I'll take a couple of pics once I have cleared up all those cut up stumps, jacks etc.

Boco I am at 1400 feet elevation. I think that Noah dude went up higher than that but he had help apparently and a high tide to get there. I had to truck mine up to that spot. But for all I care, let the ice caps melt. Lighting the stove now to help that process along and have the fishing gear on board.

Curious if you plan to pour footings under her and then block walls and drop her on? Oak is good for a while but not permanent.

East Tennessee offers some beautiful scenery. The TFHA is a first rate trapping organization that you may be interested in joining. If they are still having their annual convention at Falls Creek Falls you're bound to have a good time.

Enjoy your new adventure.

Another life goal reached in success, Michael ! Maintaining Tess will be easy .

I really like that stainless pipe and the wood stove .

A turn key living place while you move onto other building goals. Perfect.

No idea but I am planning to chop 10 oak rounds every day and stack them. Right now I burn about 3 per day. So that should create some sort of buffer over time. I don't know what a cord or face cord etc. is but I do know that I need enough to keep us warm. I have enough dead standing oak and some other hard wood here. So I don't have to worry about not having time to season the fire wood.

Thanks for the heads up about the trapping association.

I finished wiring up my disconnect on the pole where they hung the transformer on Thursday Finished leveling the workshop trailer and pulled a dead oak to the fire wood chopping place and popped the radiator on the tractor. Off to Knoxville tomorrow to take this laptop to a Apple shop to have the batteries replaced. They have to send it in to get it done though and that may take a few days. So y'all are not going to read much of my BS till I get the thing back as I am not much of a phone typer. With any luck I can braze the radiator. If not I have to try and get a replacement from somewhere. Wish me luck as without the tractor the fire wood thing is going to get tough to do. So with a bit of luck we should have electrickery coming out of a pole in a couple of days and can turn off the generator for some quiet times. I am sooooo looking forward to that. No background noise all day long for the first time in years. Then on to the next challenge.

Yes I do but they are still alive. So at the moment I am cutting down the dead standing oak and Hickory trees I can get to as i can burn them as they are now. But I will cut some ash for the future. Lay them down this winter while the sap is down and cut them up when I have a bit of time.

If your Ash are still alive, I imagine it won't be long until they are good dead standing timber.

I'll have to have a look at the other side of the property but that part is not as easy to get to and i would have to wait for when I have a 4 wheeler to log them and pull them down the slope to the track where I can get them with the Massey

The missus was in PA visiting the kids and grand son for a week. She got back while we had some snow on the ground and she nearly slid into the side of the boat when she parked the car. I am thinking of putting the fenders back on the starboard side smile But if I do that I would probably die.

I took the day off today and tinkered in the workshop trailer. Cleaned and prepped some brass ready to load. 30-30 , 6.5 Grendel and some 30-06 and put the Tasco scope onto the black rifle to try out tomorrow. Se if the thing holds up to the 458 SOCOM or if it scatters. Still had a bunch of stuff shower from towing the trailer up here and had to sort that out. Made an adapter cable and now have the trailer plugged into the pole and have a little cube heater set up in there. Nice to have electrickery without a generator running. Been raining on and off all day so I did not get around to zero the thing. I'll do that tomorrow. Going to Drive down to Hilton Head Island on Monday to work for a week, screwing around on boats till the 23rd. Then come back up here for 3 weeks or so doing my thing mucking around on the homestead. Cutting wood and building prep stuff. Got the tractor fixed for the most part. But still need to rebuild the starter as it is not very enthusiastic cranking it over and when it is under 30F I need to get the jump leads out to help it along a little bit. Have not been able to find a rebuild kit for one of those yet though, so will have to keep looking till I do. I really want to find out what those wires are for in the under ground water tank I found here when I get back. We may have a well I did not know about and that would be a huge step forward for us. I can't look at the bird feeder without thinking about Jonathan these days and have been reluctant to blow the dust of my DSLR and take some pictures. I'll get around to it at some point though. One step at a time

Got the 4 wheeler running, made a little trailer for it and started to clear the site for the house. I cut down a nice oak that I am going to mill into boards tomorrow to build the steps for the Boat / cabin. As we are still using a stepladder to get onto it. When I have that thing built, I'll clear a few more yards of my shooting range as a treat lol. Thats the view from where the house will be. Looks better in real life than it does in those phone pics. Little by little we are getting things done a step at a time. ..... Now I have to organize a burn barrel.

Down at the creek bottom are too many rocks to clear the brush with a brush hog on a tractor. So I am doing it on foot with a weed whacker and chainsaw. The good thing is that down there I can make as much noise as I want without any of it making it out. So I started early today and just finished for the day. Got about 200 yards cleared Have to go down there with a range finder to know where I am at exactly but it will do for now. When I have a little time next week, I'll set up target places and build a shooting bench. I have a dock box I don't need anymore and i'll set that up down there as well so I can leave the stuff I use down there ... like paper targets staple gun, shooting rests chrono etc. All I have to take for a shooting session then is the rife, ammo and notebook. Should be able to have my first session down there by next weekend. I'll take some pictures next time I am down there to measure and set up targets.
Got a burn barrel today and made a lid for it as well. Tomorrow its back to milling some planks for the steps and for a compost box. Got to keep up with the honey do list smile

Yeppers Boco i don't think boredom is one of my problems in my mediate future. I have a whole bunch of little projects that I want to tackle before spring time, when I want to have a closer look at the lake and do a spot of fishing here and there once I have the little boat cleaned up and painted. Need to get and couple of trail cameras as well and put them in strategic places to see what critter frequent what parts of the place. I could easily keep another couple of people busy here laugh

I visited Cookeville (little ways south and west of you) about 12 years ago. Beautiful country out that way.

Well that was weird.

I Finished cutting the shrubs on what is to be my shooting range. And when I did the rough cut I stopped at what I thought was about 200 yards. There was a oak in the way and I felled that yesterday and went to pull it up the bank and cut it into 10' length. So there was me thinking, " this is about half way from the shooting position to the target. So I got the range finder from the 4 wheeler ranged the target 97 Yards and I was standing 3 yards short of the tree. Ranged the spot where I am going to put the box and shooting bench 104 yards. .... who needs a range finder anyway what ya have eyes like the bionic man grin . So I am guessing that job is jobbed lol.

I am quite happy with what I got done in the last 3 days driving a week whacker and a chainsaw.

Pic one is looking from the 100 yard line to the 200 yard target
Pic two is looking from the for now shooting spot to the 200 yard and 100 yard target positions and
Pic 3 is looking from the present shooting position up the range to where it is going to be and will give me 300 yards to play with. once I hack away some more brush and a couple of trees. But for now the 200 yards will do me just fine.

Now I can spend the evening picking thorns out of my adonis body.

I have pulled the wheels of the little trailer as they had open bearings of the cheap crap kind in them. So I pressed them out and have ordered some ZZ bearings ( sealed on both sides and greased for life of the bearing.
They should arrive on Friday and while I was at it, I re enforced the struts of the trailer as they were flexing a little when I was hauling loads of firewood when bumping over rocks and downed branches.
Loaded up some test rounds for the 6.5 Grendel last night ..... and will have a go on the new playground tomorrow if the weather lets me. Those Nosler 120 grain B tip bullets look promising as venison getters.

Some folks asked me if I had a well on the property and how I get water so I thought I may as well share that here as well.
I have a spring at the bottom of the place and I actually set up the range next to the creek bed that comes from said spring. So at the moment as I do not have a well yet and the house is going to be in a different spot to where the houseboat is I am bringing the water up with a tank on my trailer for the small boat. Using a 12 volt membrane pump to fill it , and a live bait well pump at the bottom of of the tank to transfer the water into the boats on board tanks. The boats tanks hold just over 100 gallons and that tank in the trailer holds 70 . So whenever the water level in the boats taks goes a bit low, I hitch up the trailer , drive down to the spring and fill the thing. Once the house is built, I'll dig a shallow well and pump the water into a cistern next to the house and work it that way as the house is going to be way closer to the spring than the boat is. I used the same system when we were out at anchor ... just got the water from the marina instead of a spring and used the little boat instead of its trailer.

Thank you for the kind words 330-Trapper. I think I am finding my land legs and right now the place is still a little in disarray. So going by a well proven motto, improvise, adapt and overcome gets stuff done good enough for the missus. All leading up to when I can finally start on the house and get that done.
I was going to spend some time on the range and play ( try out some new stuff ) But its been raining since sun up. So listed after getting some work for customers out of the way I loaded some test rounds instead to try out once thongs dry up a bit in a day or so.

Thank you Catch .... I think I am slowly getting my land legs lol

Before anyone says that there is no railing or banister on the thing. You are right , there isn't . I have it cut and ready to go on but will do that once I have the bow enclosed and till then that sort of stuff is just in the way.

Finally Run to ground in TN
The Neighbors daughter came over yesterday evening with a couple of dozen crappie filets. So of his catch today. Its been a longtime since I had fresh water fish and I never ate crappie.... they are pretty darn good. There are also walleye in the lake. I froze some of the crappies as it was way to much for one sitting and that was all I could stuff into my fridge freezer combo thing in the galley. So I have decided to let the table saw that is currently in the workshop trailer live under a tarp outside, chop things around in there a little bit and put in a chest freezer when I get back from my next work trip ti Hilton Head Island. I'll drive down on the 16th and hope to come back on the 22nd and then have a look on Craigs list and get a half way decent freezer for the trailer. Right now I could not freeze a squirrel in the space I have left. The missus has way to many vegetables in that thing we have .... and there was ice cream on special offer a week ago and that didn't help to make room in there either. So another project just around the corner lol
Going to spend some time on the range tomorrow and straighten out the work shop trailer , sharpen saw chains etc.

The breakfast spot that the missus built while I was away for a week last time. Its my favorite place in the morning watching the bird feeders with a mug of coffee.

Scuba when you get a chance to taste the belly meat and the cheek meat of a flathead, you will have another freshwater fish to salivate over.

P.S. walleye is good too. If TN reservoirs are like KS reservoirs you won't get a lot of them. Those crappies stack up in deep water in the winter. When the stars line up you can really pile them up.

I have not done any fresh water fishing in decades. I will have to clean up and paint the little boat before I take it fishing. But thats a little bit down the line of my to do list. I am lucky though that frog ( the neighbor ) is an avid fisherman. When he is not working, he is fishing. In fact he has a company truck so his private truck always has the boat trailer attached to it. So far I have not seen it unhitched lol And crappie fishing is his thing. I may get the little boat ready by spring for some walleye fishing though. Whats a flathead ?? Catfish ??

Yes a catfish. But like crappie and walleye a predator. They won't eat the nasty stuff a channel cat or blue cat will.

Question Scuba doobie doo. Are you gonna have to change the title to your boat to land boat or not houseboat, but just house? I sit back and wonder if your the first one to park a boat that you live in, on a hillside. It's absolutely wonderful!

Well I am heading back down to the beach do earn a bit of money so I can carry on improving the homestead. 5 days should be enough as I hate to leave the missus alone for long with the cats and puppy, but the bills need to get payed so here I go for another round.

Thank you .... This time round it's just fixing boats. No deliveries on the time sheet for a while yet. A couple of diesels in need of sorting out. Exhaust system and net work link on one and a heat exchanger I repaired on the other. So have to put them both back together. Then a Tank transducer that works with NMEA2000 on another boat A nav station I bent and welded up , gel coat repair and a starter motor and switch. A inmost curler with a busted bearing. Then the little stuff that keeps popping up while I am there Should be going back home on Monday if things go halfway well. I 40 is down to one lane for repairs so on my way home I'll probably drive through Georgia instead of my normal route via Columbia

I hear ya. My tractor needed a new radiator and I still have to put in a new fuel lift pump and some other bits. But I knew what was coming my way when I bought it. But that was all I could afford at the moment. Mine does not have a loader but I found some metal a while back and made a lifting boom for the 3 point hitch to lift logs etc with it. The upside is, this new lifestyle sure does not get boring lol. Always something that needs fixing

Thats my monthly week of work over and done with. I drove back up from Hilton Head last night after I finished the last job for this trip.

330 traper ...aint that the truth. The honey do list and the want to do list get mixed up with the " I think thats urgent " List and stuff gets shuffled about and shoved up and down those lists.

Today I did the paperwork for the trip, wrote orders for stuff that I need to do next time I go down there , invoices etc. I did bring a couple of days of work home with me as well. Stuff I have to machine and fabricate in preparation for the next round. Should have that all done by the end of this week and then I can play here till the middle of next month when I have to be an adult for a week to be able to pay the bills again.

Been a while since I put anything in here. Anyway I did another work trip to Hilton Head Island and got back monday away from the madness that has ensued with the corona virus all over the place. Tractor blew a head gasket before I left so had to put that on the to do list. But I don't need it right now, soit will have to wait a little while before I get to it. I started framing the bow enclosure after cutting away the aluminum railing, foot supports and coaming. I also started playing with the weed whacker again, now that the weather finally seemed to have turned from rain and more rain to something that I can work with. The weed whacking down by the range and pond is pretty much done and now I am clearing a patch for a food plot for the deer. that may or may not keep them away from the raised beds I am building. I seem to be a bit late for everything at the moment, but the weather just did not play ball at all in the last couple of month. Then there is this work thing that I have to do now and then to pay the bills.

Appears you have a game plan there.

Just winging it most of the time to be honest. Like with everything the best plans got straight out the window after the first shot is fired. Meaning I would have had my trees for the lumber down by now but the tractor decided to blow that head gasket. Now the sap is running so I am not going to fell trees. So started on the boat enclosure and the missus wants a raised deck and some raised beds for vegetables. So now I am on that and the food plot I want to put in.

Thats the windows framed . Next up. Putting the doors in then cut some boards for siding and for everything after that , like taking the wall to the living room out, the weather can do whatever it wants as I'll be working inside. Also got some more brush cut at the food plot to be and my workshop trailer sorted out. Once I am done making wood chips I have to fix the tractor so I can plow the food plot and disk it ready for getting some seed in there .... probably a little late but better than never I guess.

Looking good there. The wife ought to have plenty of sunlight to grow a jungle in the house.

I friend in PA had them in his closed in porch but changed them for double glazed windows and I got these. I have a couple more I can use as barn windows. He came down for a weekend before the madness started and brought them down.

I put a door in on either side and the port side will get a raised deck

This day 4 years ago our homestead looked like this

[Linked Image]

Our surrounding s have dried up a little since then and instead of traveling by boat for the most part ....even the commute to work was done by boat .... the dinghy has grown wheels.

[Linked Image]

Even the tow boat has changed its looks quite a bit

Does your tractor have liquid filled tires? It make s a lot of difference in how they bite. I have even thought about doing the front to help keep it on the ground better in my hills. Next project on it will be front end weights.

That porch will be good for starting plants if it pointed the right way.

Nice job either way!

If the green grass is not very high you are not late for your food plot, I frost seeded clover a week ago here in WI.

Yes the tires on the tractor are filled with liquid but it has a blown head gasket at the moment.
The front of the boat has sun all day from one side or another as the bow is facing south southwest.

I had to be an adult today and do some work work as some parts I ordered arrived yesterday late afternoon.
I am building an electric hydraulic sail managing system for a customer that bought an ex BOC racing sail boat and the current system on board is failing and there are no replacement made anymore. It had air valves and membrane activated micro switches in it and I am making one that integrates with the pump and hydraulic valves that works with relays and diodes and electric switches to run it.

[Linked Image]

Vetus wanted 59000 bucks for a all new replacement or 27000 to update the existing system. I am making this lot a loot cheaper than that. Just have to put it in a box and wire it into the boat whenever I get back down there next.

Tomorrow its back to my projects after testing this board to make sure it works as it should.

Finally got around to clearing up the work shop trailer a little bit as it started to look like a suicide bombers training camp in there. Once done I loaded up the first test rounds of the 223 WSSM to try out when I get the time. Now that they are sitting there ready, It will give me an incentive to make time for that.

Got my food plot cut out and just have a little clean up around the edges left to do but it was A getting a bit to warm to work B I clean wore the mulching edges of the weed whacker blades so now they are just cutting the brambles and are not mulching them and I am left with a whole lot of foot long sticks. Not what I really want so I'll have to do a spot of welding to put some pointy downy bits back onto those blades. And C my back told me to quit.
That crow knows that it is in trouble I think. As soon as it so much as hears the 4 wheeler it pisses of over the horizon and stays gone till I pack up and go back to the boat.
I'll just get rid of the rough sticks next and pile them up in one corner for the little critters to hide in and then just scatter some seeds around and call it good for this year. The stuff in the other food plot is growing fine. Got clover and rye in that one. This one I shallowing plow in the fall and then seed it properly next spring and disk it. I am going to be to late this year by the time I have the tractor fixed, so am not going to stress out about it. Range day tomorrow as I have a couple of powder charges to try in the 223 WSSM and one to test in the 30-06. Time for some group therapy
Got all the outside work on the bow of the boat done and started to pull the wall out on the inside to make it one " big" living room. I'll get a pic of that put up tomorrow

Appears will be some deer in trouble this fall.

Well the Missus wants a raised deck on hals the side of the boat so I need some lumber. cut down some dead standing skas and got to it with the alaskan saw mill, Sporting a Stihl MS661 and a 36" bar I did this clip in real time because most folks do it in time-lapse giving young and impressionable people the wrong idea of how long it actually takes with a relatively powerful saw to cut boards with and alaskan setup. Excuse the poor picture quality but I uploaded the clip with my phone.

So after Lloyd saw the video of me farting around with my alaskan mill he said to come up to his place and mill some lumber with his setup ..... I have to tell you it is way faster and a lot more fun working with two people with a sense of humor and a Lucas mill grin So I took home a trailer load of lumber for the deck project. Thank you Lloyd for a fun day.

It was a blast. We will do it up again when you need some more lumber. Linda asked after you left "did you get enough for your project", I told her I forgot to ask. Did you get enough for the whole project? I think the video is the same one of you on the Alaska Mill. Good times see you again soon, enjoy the build call him you need help.

I think that should be enough ... I changed the video link. i copied the wrong one at first. I'll cut sticks tomorrow and sticker the boards to dry them a little. Got the fire wood out of the way, so I can put the trailer there in the morning and unload.

So The spare parts for the tractor arrived and I pulled the thing apart. I didn't want to have it sitting under a tarp with he head removed so I waited till I had everything to put the top end back together. I am guessing that some not mechanic has had a go at fixing it before as none of the head bolts were done up with the same torque. Had everything from " thats gonna snap I think " to a bit loose. So no wonder it blew it. One of the injectors is still stuck but now that I have the cylinder head on the bench I can have a proper go at getting that out. Then clean everything up, hold a straight edge to the head and fingers crossed I won't have to tickle it with a fly cutter and then put everything back together. This time the right way. I can't complain as I got the thing cheap and only a fuel lift pump, radiator and head gasket to have it back in proper working order. I may change the alternator as well as I have a new in box one sitting here not doing anything and the one on it is from a chevy I think and hangs out the side a bit far with a DIY bracket. So I'll change that me thinks. I'lll snap a couple of pics if anyone is interested what makes a 3 cylinder perkins tick.

The little stack on the right I cut with the chain saw mill and thats going to be an outside work bench and I already nailed a compost heap surrounding out of that as well.

Turns out that the thermostat was stuck closed. This tractor did not have a temperature gauge so it must have ran a little warm under the collar and that didn't do the wrongly torqued head gasket any good.
A little detective work tends to help at times. If I had just replaced the head gasket, I would have had the same problem a little bit down the road again.

This is easy ... just takes some time cleaning all the parts up before putting things back together. But if ya want to come and play on the range ... have at it then I'll take a break from easy fingers lol.

Thanks upstateNY we like it here away from all the sanity.

Got a coyote on the trail cam at 0300 this morning. See if he hangs around.

It's alright aint it, lol. I love this deal where I get to do everything I always did...firewood, trapping, hunting/gathering, gardening...but I don't have to see anybody these days, I am not retired, and will do some residential construction trades work.

The Ant the Grasshopper story comes to mind when I watch the rest of the world scramble these days.

Well I decided in December to cut work down to one week a month as that is all we need to live. The rest of the month we to our thing here on our little spot in the woods. Granted, starting out fresh in this thing, there is a bunch of stuff that needs done to make life comfortable. Having said that, the boat is self contained for the most part so we get by just fine while working outside clearing spots , cutting trails etc. Preping the site for the house, fixing tractors , cutting firewood and lumber. You know all that fun stuff. because I do everything myself and don't have to hire anyone is the reason that i can get away with working for just a week a month. Lots of new stuff to learn here as well. The flora and fauna is quite different to what I am used to in europe and the Canary Islands. All of it interesting and quite a learning curve. But I am loving it. Bird , plant and fungus books are close by and so is the phone to take pictures of things that i want to identify when I don't have the books at hand.

I set up a trail camera at the patch that I cleared and am planning to turn into a food plot next year as this year I am going to be to late for planting much of anything. But other than the usual deer and turkeys and coons. I have had video clips of a bear at least 3 different coyotes and this morning at 0430 a bobcat. It is even without being planted with food stuff quite an attractive spot as it is next to my small pond and spring. When I get a decent trail camera at some point I'll put some pics up. This thing does 15 second video clips of questionable quality but its good enough for inventory purposes i guess and it was cheap.

WTG Scuba, just opening up some plots draw animals without planting. You have plenty time to plant it around here you can plant as late as September and still get a good stand of grass for your fall hunt. Your up late tonight.

I never go to bed before midnight . if I do , I'll be walking around the place aimlessly by about 0400 as I don't need a lot of sleep. So I tend to hit the hay at around 0100 or so and get up at 0630

Raining today but I think it will be good for the planted raised beds we built .... the lumber we milled here and at Lestan's place is still sticker and strapped down drying. I'll get to building the deck when I get back from Hilton Head Island from my next work tip that is coming up in a week and I have to prep some things before i go down there. Building a nav pod for a Catalina sailboat. With plotter, multi instrument fro wit and depth and a new auto pilot.

And just finished plowing that strip and part of the food plot. I have to modify the draw bar on the tractor a bit to get the plow to follow right but this will do for now. [Linked Image]

Its not really being busy when its fun doing. For the few that read this thread, I did a video clip of a ride around the place on my four wheeler. Well this is a clip of the same ride around yesterday .. Things have changed a little. There is all this green stuff now. Lost of trees that I can now identify and take stock of what i have to build with for the house when I get started milling lumber.

I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

He is doing pretty good. Scared of the vacuum cleaner and jumps into my lap when the admiral gets that thing out.

Tomorrow I am off to Hilton Head island for my monthly boat fix fix. Got to pay the bills somehow. I am leaving that strip I plowed as is until I get back home and then run a cultivator over it before seed goes on it.
Got everything I need packed up and the flatbed trailer hitched up as I am bringing back a couple of old boat trailers that I am going to cut up for the material that is in them to get started on building my bandsaw mill. This way I only have to buy some square section tubing for the bed of the mill and can build the moving frame out of the trailers and my old 6 wheeler. I'll use the engine out of it and the axles and bearings and a prop shaft or two I kept from past projects. I'll just have to buy a couple of shives for the bandsaw blade to run on and plays for a V belt to link drive them. Should be a fun project to build.

So I won't be posting much on here or my usual bs on the forum as I'll be doing this work thing over the day and drinking in the evenings.

Work in the day-drink by night. Sounds like a plan to me.

Beautiful country. Could be Oregon.

I like this place more every day I spend on it. Got soaked yesterday walking the dog ... but it was warm and I started the walk in the rain .... Fin and I had a ball throwing sticks and sliding on the wet leaves and grass.

Anyone will give away a manual post hole digger.
I have a Danuser auger that mounts on a 3 point hitch. With it I have planted thousands of trees and many fence posts.
Now all the rage is skidsteer mount hydraulic drive.

I'll be looking for something like that when I build the house. As I want to put it on posts and in this ground I found myself running around in circles really fast using a hand held gas powered auger with a 12 inch bit in the thing. Its ok for a hole or two, then I have to put it away until I forget how punishing it is to work with .. then pick it up and to another hole or two and so on lol. I have to drill 6 holes for the deck that the admiral wants and am heading it already as that gas powered turture instrument if going to kick my butt again and will try its best to pull a shoulder out

Thats another monthly boat fix fix over and done with. I got back yesterday evening after having had to extend y stay there for an extra couple of days because of some unexpected work that came up. One of my customers complained that the tractor he bought was to big for his small garden and i offered to swap him mine for it as I wanted something with 4 wheel drive as I am mostly just skidding logs with it I did not expect him to take me up on that offer but he was really happy with the idea. So one of his guys will come to my place with a truck, bringing me the other tractor and picking mine up. I upgraded from a Massey Ferguson 240 to a MF 385 4x4 with a cab and air conditioning. Heck I may even put that one to work on the farms around me for the hay harvest or similar.

Finally got the corn and sunflower seeds in the ground. The little tractor all finished. I thought I would give it a good overhaul before it goes away. New fluids all round, new fan belt and some gaskets that were a little suspicious. Grease up and a lick of paint. All cleaned up and ready for the swap next week. After the rain stopped yesterday and I had the seeds in, I started on the deck for the missus. Putting some holes in the ground and scattering the posts. Once it got a little darker, I set up the laser level and marked all the posts to the same hight sticking out of their respective holes. today I'll be mostly driving the skills and a wood chisel to make the cut outs for the boards on the heard of the posts.

You moved forward a few decades on the tractor trade. Hopefully you got the other guy to sweeten the deal with some cash for you. You certainly would not want to swap even up - that new tractor will use more fuel with a cab and 4wd.

30 years ago I bought the Danuser 20/40 auger with a couple bits. It has been a great asset. You may wish to check out a skidding winch to ease log retrieval. Mine has 165 feet of cable plus I have a 100 foot extension.

Too bad you are not closer, I have a nice 3 point lifting pole that I would gladly give to you. It has multiple hooking points. Although if you put a loader on that new tractor you will no longer need a boom pole.

I am retired, but have my own business to help affording being retired. Work safely on solid ground.

I made a boom pole and will keep that and use it on the new tractor. Things like front loaders and winches are out of my budget with so many other things that take priority. I am in the process of building a bandsaw mill. The engine mount and saw frame I'll make out of an old boat trailer and my old 6 wheeler ATV. Thats the stuff I am working on when its raining. When I get to making the holes for the posts the house will sit on, I am going to put an auger behind the tractor. This running around in circles gets old quick.

I will build some stairs going up to the upper deck from somewhere next to the deck. But thats it as far as boat improvements go. Then comes the wood shed and a barn but I'll have to build that band saw mill first. That mill is my next big project. There are always a ton of smaller projects to lighten up a day though.
The missus did a nice job on the little tractor

Thats the deck done. Next thing is to enclose the sides as the space underneath it makes a good storage space for garden stuff , firewood and such. But I have to cut a tree or two and mill some more lumber for that project. Next up the bandsaw mill build.

I wonder how many times you handled each piece of wood from log to board, stacking, loading, unloading, restacking, then building. That's a lot of sweat equity in that deck. That's why you don't need a gym. Good job Scuba.

Don't store firewood under it. You're living in the Wildland Urban Interface. Now that your home is not surrounded by water, you have a few extra things to think about. Check out some of the information from a program called FireWise.

Thanks for the heads up CoonsBane

When I got back from the las work trip to Hilton Head Island I went and ran a cultivator through the strip i plowed a couple of weeks prior just to be able to get some corn and sunflower seeds in the ground. I know i should have let it sit for longer after turning is and wait till the grass rotted but I was late getting started and had to fix the tractor first. The cultivator is not really the tight tool for the job now either but its what I have at hand. I am on the lookout for a cheap disc harrow that I will adapt to fit on the 3 point hitch of the new tractor. But those things seem to be pretty thin on the ground around these parts. So till then I have to make do with what I have. At least this way I was able to expose the bigger rocks and pick them out. I'll probably build an outside baking oven out of them if they pass the fire test.
When I find a disk harrow, I'll make that strip wider and put some spuds in there next year as well as some other greens.
