Bought a syringe pole to use this year so if all goes well I will skin my first skunk this winter. What size needle and syringe do you guys use to extract the essence and what do you store it in. Thanks in advance!

I just use a cheap cattle syringe to extract the quill. Then I put it into a glass jar and bury that jar in a 5 gallon bucket of dirt. I've yet to find a container that completely encloses the smell but this method isn't bad. You wouldn't have to bury the jar but if you're hanging onto the quill for any extended amount of time, it does help with the smell. Maybe others will chime in with other ideas.

1 Inch X 16Ga needles works for me for the pole and drawing, 12cc syringe for the pole, 20 and 35 cc/ml to draw the stink out. You don't want to have to do a 2nd poke on the sacks so on the jumbos here I go with the 35 cc/ml ones. I get the needles and 12 cc/ml syringes by the box here at the local Vet and pick up the draw syringes as I need them.

typically I use a 16ga needle and a 35 cc syringe. Both can be bought at TCS. As far as storage glass containers in ammo cans

That seems easy enough to get. Law dog just curious but why do you not want to do a second poke?

If you go small syringe on larger sacks it's a pain to draw because after the first poke you lose the vacuum power. Always better to go a big, bigger then to small. Sometimes in a effort to "save" a few cents a guy loses a few dollars in essence.

FYI poke the sacks when they are fresh if they dry and harden they make a mess when you poke them!

If you can keep every thing clean don't drip or smudge on anything is big part of handling odor. I can bring a bottle of essence in the house sealed in a metal paint can and the wife won't know. So metal paint cans been my choice for storage for many years. I started using paint cans after I seen them used to send evidence to the crime lab.
