Do any of you send your deer hides out to be tanned and, if so, do you have any recommendations/advice for sending a few out?

WB Place here closed up shop years ago, so I started brain tanning my own.

Are you looking for hair on or hair off?

www.sleepycreektannery.com - I toured their facilities. They do quite a few deer.

There's a guy on here if I remember correctly that does it. He's out east somewhere.

If you are looking for hair off (buckskin) your options are going to be limited. Moyles does not do hair off.

Years ago, there were numerous buckskin tanneries, including several in the NW. they are all closed now.

If you do find a buckskin tannery be sure to ask IF you will get your own hides back, if that is important to you. Several of the larger buckskin tanneries will not keep hides separate for customers. You get a Hide back that was similar to yours.

You can buy them on ebay cheaper than what you can get them tanned for.

There is a tannery in your area that dresses bears. Not sure of the city but I’m sure you could goggle the,

Carolina Fur Dressing

It’s been several years since I’ve used them but I was happy with the work they did. Not sure if they will prep the Hide for you. I always sent them salted/dried pelts that were fully prepped

Traprjohn - thanks for the clarification.

Guess I could use them because my Idaho fur dealers license is also a taxidermist license. Strange, I know. So even though I don’t do any taxidermy work, I’ve got a taxidermy license. I guess that is all they care about. smile
