Hi was just wondering what method you guys use to stake your raccoon sets. Or just what you may reccomend to a beginner. I will be using dp traps mostly.

Drags, extension cables or fox hollow super stakes with retrieval ends. I dont use rebar stakes anymore on DPs, especially around water.

I attach a 24" length in 1 /8 inch cable with a loop on the end. I use a quick link on th end to anchor and tighten with a wrench to make it harder to steal

Cable extensions or chain around trees. Fence staples or quick links to secure them.

Thanks I was thinking about just taking some snares and wrapping them around a tree then putting the trap through the cable

I use the 1/8” cable as well. Make the loop at the end big enough to put the DP through after you wrap it around a small tree or post.

Rebar is still the fastest if truck trapping.

And short chains on the DPs. Any additional length, or tying to trees, will cause a percentage of issues/loss.

I use manly 20”-24” stakes, but I have a couple dozen with longer cable extensions and a couple dozen made for trees like mentioned above.

Freedom Brand Wolf Fang earth anchors attached to 16 inches of chain with 1/8in quick links. That way I can either drive in the earth anchor or wrap the chain around a tree and attach it to itself with the quick link.

I put double stake swivels on all my dry land coon traps, 1.5s and DPs 4 years ago. I then made 3/8 inch by 16-18 inch rebar stakes with nuts on the end. I cross stake and the two smaller stakes are lighter than one longer 1/2 inch stake and hold very well and I use a vice grips to turn them and pull them. I have a lot of softer areas due to moisture and this works , well , holds well and is light and fast. I am doing the same with my canine traps too, only I am using one 1/2 inch rebar 18 inches and one smaller one.
