How come there is no American fur auction house? Not enough fur from down there?

How come there is no American fur auction house? Not enough fur from down there? Alaska (which is America) would be "over there and/or up there" from where you are. Don't they teach you Canucks how to read maps?

Are you talking about Western Canadian raw fur? Seattle was a ranch outfit no?The only time I heard of seattle was when they sold in conjunction with fha. When they went belly up,was when FHA went with saga. "Cascadia Capital, an investment bank serving middle market clients globally, today announced it acted as the exclusive financial advisor to American Legend Cooperative (“ALC”), an agricultural marketing cooperative of fur farmers in the United States and Canada, in its acquisition by North American Fur Auctions (“NAFA”). Established in 1986, ALC was founded as an agricultural marketing cooperative. Today ALC has over 240-member patrons and is the leading processor, marketer and seller of fur pelts and fur products in the United States. ALC has been a market leader in high-quality, premium products, as exemplified by its industry leading Blackglama label. The acquisition of ALC by NAFA will achieve the market’s longstanding goal of unifying the North American fur industry and providing increased scale and volume to ensure strong and stable pricing for member patrons for years to come. The combined entities will collectively market over one third of the world’s mink fur supply. Michael Butler, Chairman & CEO of Cascadia Capital, commented, “Cascadia is proud to have represented ALC and to have worked directly with many of its members to think through both the economic and social factors of a transaction process and alternatives. We anticipate further consolidation among co-ops and in the broader agriculture sector, as industry players seek scale and margin enhancement.” “This transaction is indicative of the need for volume for many co-op and agriculture processors in an increasingly competitive and capital-intensive environment,” added Scott Porter, a Vice President at Cascadia. “The combined ALC and NAFA entity will greatly benefit all member patrons through operating synergies, stronger pricing power, and increased capital.” The acquisition of American Legend represents another successful transaction for Cascadia’s Food & Agribusiness practice group, following closely on the heels of the acquisition of Specialty Sales by Benford Capital Partners."

One I can think of was in Denver during the fur boom days, Rocky Mtn Fur Exchange? Went to a sale there in the early 80's. Anyway they didn't last long.

Well I guess we'll have to wait and see how long this NAFA SAGA thing lasts. Might be a new story in another day or two.

I wonder if the NAFA checks will be in Euros, if they're ever mailed. They'll be in Finnish Markkas - 18 cents on the dollar.

. So how come no wild fur auction house like FHA? . The various Trappers Associations sales seems to be a workable business model if on a small scale.

For a number of years, ending in March of this year, FHA sold their wild fur collection in conjunction with SAGA in Helsinki.
I’d say let’s wait a bit and see how things shake out. I personally think it is too early to jump to conclusions about what is going to happen.
What we really need is a few more threads on Tman discussing the situation. And it was such a disaster last year they decided not to do it this year. And that is the rest of the story. Good Day! And was there a wild fur selling event other than western coyotes exclusively that wasn’t a disaster for a seller trying to produce over the cost of production?

Boco- I think there's some of that up there in your near-empty woods country as well. Crees probably have a word or two for it...

What about the all the warrants issued over collusion in bidding a few years back? Isn't that why the auction went to Canada? So the outlaws could still collude rather than go to prison? Of course since then the Chinese government stepped in with their tax evasion arrests. "wy.wolfer" said, Once again the voice of reason. I would think that SAGA would violate the FHA marketing agreement if they took over NAFA's wild fur business, they don't have graders trained for North American wild fur The first thing that happens at NAFA is your fur gets sorted by zip code. Doesn't matter where it was caught at. There are two or three fur graders and a big pile of amateurs. All kinds of shenanigans going on with NAFA grading, fur getting switched etc.
