Long time reader, first time poster. Have a possum living in my chicken coop. Was thinking I would set conibear in a bucket set for him when I lock up at night then pull it before I let the girls out in the morning. What bait should I use? I've caught quite a few possum over the years, just never tried to do it on purpose

Possum seem to love my fox sets, coon sets, coyote sets... Come to think of it, the only set I haven't caught a possum in is a muskrat run! smile Good luck.

Possums ain't too particular about their vittles. Anything remotely edible and most things inedible are on their menu. sick

Canned cat food works. smile

Make a really nice coyote set and a possum will be in it in the morning.

Seriously, Something stinky or something sweet or about anything that is or was edible at one time.

This has been my experience. If i was looking for just possum i would find the stinkiest nasty thing i could find. If you have a cage trap that would be the easiest just in case a chicken wandered into it, you could just release it. Things dont release too good from a conibear.

All you have to do to catch him is spend some time making a really good fox set and you will have him in the morning.

Sardines work great, but it seems a shame to waste good sardines on a possum! grin

Literally anything. I throw out any sort of scraps in front of my game camera, and they have a hoot munching on whatever is there. Heck, they even ate the coot remains I had left after a duck hunt.

Canned fish based cat foods have a very high success rate with me. Cage trapping and just experimenting in general has taught me that they cannot resist a good fishy wet bait. In cages I would catch the same one multiple nights in a row. Then i kinda had to stop the let it go it aint worth anything motto.
