Stumbled upon this today wondered if it was a coyote den. I did not put the tire there I found this den around a small junk pile back in the woods

Ok I wasn't sure because the area has tons of coyotes and I did spot some coyote crap about 20 feet away from it

Coyotes usually only use a den in the spring...when they have pups. Which may be why it doesn't look used or active.

There is a good possibility that there is junk buried there that corroded and collapsed forming the hole. That does not mean that coyotes and other furbearers would not use it as a den. The known coyote dens I have found all had dirt that had obviously been thrown out of the hole. They all had some larger bones, in the area, that were to big for the coyotes to easily chew apart around too.

Fox & Coyote den entrances are key hole shaped. Higher than wider.

Here's a Red Fox den I found during trapping season. The soil is sandy so I think they visited to play and dig.
