Let's stay with a blanket, say a white blanket with a blue stripe on each end. Daylight savings time is like cutting one blue stripe off and sewing it to the other end, and we have a wider blue stripe. We don't change the length of the blanket (or the day). We change the appearance of the blanket (and the timing of the sunlight during the same 24 hours).

I much rather have my clock read 6am when the sun comes up than 7am especially when running my line before work.

Supposedly, the reasoning in my area is daylight savings time keeps it too dark in the morning for kids and school bus drivers. We are told not to judge all Muslims by the actions of a few lunatics, but are told to judge all gunowners by the actions of a few.
