Is anybody else noticing low raccoon numbers? It might just be me, butI think I’m noticing fewer this year than any other year I can remember. I normally see plenty while bow hunting, on trail cameras, roadkill etc, but I just don’t think I’m seeing as many. A lot of guys in my area have quit hunting and trapping them within the last few years, so it wouldn’t surprise me. Anybody else noticing it, or is it just my imagination? Thanks

This Summer, my Great Pyrenees female went into heat and I locked her up with my Kangal male. In an 4 day period, I lost around 40 guineas, around 40 chicken and around 10 pigeons to coons. I trapped 22 coons and 6 opossums in about a week. All were in or next to my barns. All the coons were adults, but 4. I lost 33 pigeons to a mink, at the same time. Those were my first losses to a furbearer in 7 years living here. I usually keep traps set almost all season. Last year, I only targeted opossums here. I kept very few coons and only killed a few skunks, after getting sprayed trying to let one go. I also usually have dogs out on patrol.
My egg dump is getting hit hard as is the manure dumped from my brooders by furbearer.
I had a pigeon in a quarantine cage get pulled through the wire last night. I am going to cage trap around my buildings hard this season because we have barn cats and trap and snare coyotes at the back of my property.

Not seeing many road kills .. so they are either not crossing the road or there are fewer in the area. It happened a few years ago and the distemper took hold and wiped out all but a few in about 5 or 6 mile radius.... they were just starting to recoup 2 years ago … but not many trapping or hunting them now... so, they might have started dying off again. Will know in a couple of weeks.
