Those are some great bucks! Wow!
Ambush >> tonight when I walked out there was a guy from MI that was hunting below me. He said he is here for 4 days and hopes to get a good one. I wished him well and hope he gets what he came for. He was a nice young man.
BB >> I most likely won't shot him but I have a couple of guys that might. I will defiantly get a score and some pictures. Beautiful bucks you shot. Snowy, if you see that MI hunter tell him us Mi guys are rooting for him...it's stressful when your on a short time table to get it done... No shame in killing that whitetail you posted pics of...I have a wall full of bucks most hunters would turn there noses up at, almost everyone has been shot on public hunting grounds here in MI with a bow and I'm proud of those kills...Actually the one I'm after here may score 90 if I'm lucky but I do know a few locals that have been hunting him so I like the competition...
Thought I was a good trapper until I started trapping coyotes...... Thought I was a good bowhunter until I targeted mature bucks....

I will do that Ambush and good luck to you. Scores to me mean nothing it is what the hunt is about and the animal that you want.

Well you missed the length of his main beams by 6 inches so that's all I need to know about your ability to score them on the hoof. Here's an ACTUAL photo of a 135-inch Montana 3.5 year old. Big difference between this buck I shot in 2012 and the buck in the photo. I hope the OP shoots him and scores him and you'll see how far off you are. BNB, you really like showing off pics of yourself, don't you ? Until that buck gets ground checked and actually taped. Our opinions are like ars....well you know. Every body's got one. Snowy asked for opinions on score, and I gave mine. Nobody said you had to agree with it Truth be told the photo of the deer provided doesn't allow for enough info to accurately judge it's score. One thing I know, hunters tend to over estimate rack scores much like they over-estimate deer weights. All is fine and dandy until the deer hits the certified scales, or the steel measuring tape come out. Then things get pretty quiet. His left main beam IS better than his right but no way does that buck sport 28" main beams. Not a chance. w

The fact of the matter is, its hard to score a deer by a picture...at least without a good reference. We all know the tricky camera angles. Years ago I posted pictures on another chat board of the same deer but from different angles. They were posted months apart. The general consensus was 130" on one picture and 155" on the other. The deer actually scored 141 and some change. With that being said, its still fun to play the game. My initial guess of the OP's deer was 150", plus or minus 3". ol'dad

Snowy - asking for a score from a picture is tantamount to starting a riot mate! Roughly - he's between 130-170. Not sarcasm, just best anyone can reliably do from the one shot not putting a tape measure on em.

This just is ruining deer hunting for normal people. If you need the meat, shoot the deer. If you want something to brag about and say hey, look at me, do a check up from the neck up. Good grief.

Nope,
He's a pencil beamed 3 year old with a lot of potential but doesn't have the goods for a 160".
I've actually killed a NET 160" 5/8th typical in Alberta that is in the B&C Whitetail record book shot near the Beaver River below Cold Lake so I'm aware of what it takes to get to 160".
Snowy's trespasser buck doesn't have the goods.
two or three more years maybe but not this year.

How long ago did you kill him? Ones that are that size are deleted from the records and no longer appear after 3 years

After looking closely at the pic snowy, I can tell you quite a bit. He is definitely a he and in the deer community he is known as Jud. Although he is very masculine he enjoys long walks in the rain, listening to the cicadas give the night to the crickets with his date and loves hanging with his special someone counting cars by the highway. He is actually only 2 1/2 years old, he gets his blocky build from his mom's (Jane) side. He would rather not be scored because he does volunteer work for the BBA. That is Button Buck Anonymous for wayward bucks and wishes not to offend them. He has referred to people who score him as idiots, his words not mine. Hope this helps.

How long ago did you kill him? Ones that are that size are deleted from the records and no longer appear after 3 years 1994. It's listed in the Boone & Crockett Records of North American Whitetail Deer, 4th edition, published in 2003. Any buck scoring over 160" typical is listed after the 170" + deer. It's all time B&C rank in 2003 was 4,423 and ranked 188 for the Province of Alberta I stopped hunting Alberta in 2000 when hunts started going over $5,000 U.S. BTW out of 70 typical 170" or bigger whitetail entries entered from Montana and listed in the 2003 record book, only SIX had a main beam of 28" or more 28" Main Beams are fairly scarce in Montana. Just saying. w

Walleyed what makes you think this is a young deer. LOOK AT HIS SHOULDERS. !!! 150 plus all day long. gross. From the pic I've got to work with, He just looks small. it's really a blurry pic and I can't magnify it to study it better After hunting Borealis whitetail in Northern Alberta, most whitetail look small to me. And the rack looks spindley to me as well. Tines don't look very long when compared with the ears, either. I just don't see a 160" rack. So what do you think this deer WEIGHS Jbyrd63 ? w

Young Deer. No mass to his circumferences, G-2s and G-3 tines don't go 10", brows less than 6" main beams short, no more than 22" inside spread looks average, no more than 17" Not enough inches for 160" gross, let alone net. 135" tops and that's giving it extreme benefit of the doubt. Nice potential though for greatness in 3 more years. Let him grow up. (This was sarcasm) w I have deer hunted every year for 43 years, have a lifetime license in 2 states and have spent 1000's of hours in the woods. I take 4 weeks off from work every November to deer hunt and trap. Not only have I never killed a deer as nice as that one, I have never seen a deer alive as nice as that one. If I thought I had to pass that deer because he was too small I would sell everything I own associated with deer hunting and start shopping with my wife...... TOMORROW! [/quote] I never told anyone not to shoot any deer. My point was in a few years he will have a much more impressive rack. I'm not a Antler worshiper and I never was. I am a meat hunter at heart w
