Hey guys, long story short, I spooked a mature buck while getting out of the stand tonight. Do you think this will turn him nocturnal? Thanks

No, give him some time and get back after him. I missed a 150” twice one morning and killed him 3 days later

Depends on how cautious he is. Some bucks get mature because they are lucky or don't see much hunting pressure and some get mature because they are really cautious. I can say with confidence it didnt improve your odds of harvesting him. LOL

I shot a whole quiver of arrows at a big 10 point on a friday afternoon. I didnt notice i was hitting a small twig with my arrow right after release. I cut limbs down in the tree with the arrows and they were falling all around him. He came in behind me on the other side of a creek. I went back the next tuesday and sat in the tree right where he walked down to the creek to drink. Got him with a clean shot that time.

Deer get spooked when no one is around. They are nervy. As long as you sneak back in undetected and have the wind in your favor, he will eventually make his way back through.

I'd rather spooked a good buck than a mature doe.
If it's a spot where a doe will come by, give it time. He'll follow her when the time s right.

swampgas chili and schmidt beer makes for a deadly combo

Yeah if you get the does in your area scared they will make it a point to find and pester you. Mature buck during the rut has no brains.

Sounds like you left to early, not being smart but if you can see that he was mature at night your leaving to early...

Thought I was a good trapper until I started trapping coyotes......
Thought I was a good bowhunter until I targeted mature bucks....

I doubt he knew what you were just something big coming out. Don't sweat it. Let him cool off then go back after him. I would doubt it would make him nocturnal.

I would relocate my stand about 100yrds on the travel route where you saw him coming from- maintain wind awareness. This time of the season he may not care but in the past if spooked or uneasy- I've seen them using the same trail, nose in the air and head bobbing looking around but choosing a different route prior to your stand location.
