Hey gents,

How many of yall actively hunt starlings? They have always been on my hit list. My brothers and I use to shoots 100's of them every weekend when they went to roost. Have any of yall ever used starling decoys? Do you make your own starling decoys? I've had several friends clean and cook them, and have raved about how they turned out. I just like to shoot them myself.

I did find last year, you could call them using my FoxPro. That made for some interesting shoots. It's getting pretty close to time to see the massive flocks of them in my area, with crops coming out of the fields I'm noticing more every day.

A friend of mine, Leroy, used to put bread outside his sliding grass door and shoot starlings with a pellet gun. He would prop up the dead starlings as decoys. He would then breast the starlings out and eat them. He liked the starlings flavor. I have never eaten starlings.

Had a cat that would wait under the porch for an english sparrow to fall off the feeder, ate every one, but a starling?, it would sniff it, give me a dirty look for disturbing her nap and walk away.

So I'm guessing they are not cat approved.

The guys around here that shot starlings, would just sit near the duck farm feeders, there were a LOT of starlings!

One time, while waiting in line behind a garbage truck at a trash transfer station on a sweltering hot day, I observed the frantic behavior of several starlings swooping down and landing behind the garbage truck, feeding on something which was oozing out among the pus dripping out of the truck.
I broke out the binoculars and sure enough, it was maggots.
So no, I will not be dining on starlings any time soon.

Chickens gobble down maggots too.
