I had finished trapping at a site and I was pulling my traps and stacking my stakes, drowning rods, and traps to double check my count and put them up so they will be ready for the next stop. I was not looking around and Scout started barking with her hair raised up. There was an old feller trying to sneak up on me to see what I was doing. Funny thing was he was trespassing. He didn't have a gun what was a good thing since Scout backed him up to a tree. I told her to load up and she came back and jumped into the truck.

Second stop, we had been here every day for 6 days. She does the same thing everyday when we get there, except today. Today she went nuts standing on her hind legs sniffing the air and kept trying to run towards the dam. I guessed I had a live beaver but couldn't believe she could smell it that far off. I got my waders on grabed the pistol and tater rake and off we went. She took off like a bullet and I had to keep calling her back and then off again. When we got close to the dam she went and bayed an old sow down. It was the old female and the last in this swamp.

She has the best nose of any dog I have ever had. She has showed me where beaver swim, if there in a den or not. Hates a coon and will let you know if one has been around. She has a coon bark, a red fox grunt, and a coyote grunt. Running drags she makes short work of tracking.

Not a bad partner

Can't beat a good dog!

I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

Really make you wonder about scent and sound. I have had labs since the late 70's and two were what i consider cracker jacks. The one I have now is one. She will find spent shell casings, keys, birds, game, and furbearers. she know what I am after and that is was she hunts for.

At one place I trap coyotes at, the farmer's small terrier will tell him when I have something. Many times it's close to 3/4 mile away.

Common sense is a not a vegetable that does well in everyone's garden.
