^^THIS !...get a chambering that you can use this ammo first...then let her grow into higher powered standard ammo...…...UNLESS you reload, then just use the downloaded powder charges.

Good points John.
The 7mm/08 is a favorite of mine. I have used it with great success. As has already been stated, the ability to put your rounds on target with accuracy cannot be overstated. With the Hornady 139 btsp and a 140/150 partition I thnk you are equipped for any lower 48 hunt. I like hot cors and accubonds as well, but if I could only have one bullet it would be the 140 partition.
The 7/08 is a necked down 308, same as 243 & 260. It is the ballistic equivalent of the 7x57 (commonly called "7 mauser"), but is is housed in the short action cartridge and loaded to higher pressure. The 7x57 has been used all over the world for 100+ years for all sorts of game. American loadings for 7x57 tend to be on the light side.

If the rifle is for deer size game only, I would seriously consider the 6.5 creedmoor. There is a tremendous variety of ammo and components available and more becoming available all the time due to its popularity. The 6.5C is a fantastic cartridge and would be my pick over the 6.5x55 or 260, which all 3 are have very similir ballistic profiles.

Started my kids with a .243 but when they are big enough to hunt elk they generally pack one of our 7mm-08s. My wife shoots a Savage Axis and I have a Ruger Frontier for the kids. The Ruger is a bit heavy with a stubby barrel. The extra weight versus some of the compacts and Model sevens has a noticeable reduction in recoil and muzzle jump. Real light rifles can lead to pretty substantial recoil even with the little 7-08. With the heavier rifle my scrawny kids have handled it pretty well from about age 12 up. My go to bullet for everything including elk is a 140 accubond. Lately have been shooting 120 ballistic tips also and they are proving to be absolute deer and antelope slayers.

Myself and both my kids shoot the 7mm-08
Works great on deer.
Both kids went from .243 to this round.
I don't see why they cant use it the rest of their life.

Well here's an update after talking to a lot of guy's in the gun shops I totally changed my mind on what rifle & caliber to buy my daughter for her B-Day. I ordered a Weatherby Vanguard Camilla Walnut in the 6.5 Creedmoor 20" barrel and matt-blued finish. I also ordered a Nikon Prostaff 4x12x40 BDC scope with Leopold 1 piece bace & rings. I really think she will be tickled pink with it. Here's a picture of what it will look like.

Excellent choice on the Weatherby. Designed specifically for women.
