Just curious what everyone uses to treat there coyotes and fox before skinning. I just picked up a can of Raid Flying Insect spray and im thinking it should kill the fleas, any thoughts?

Read the can, I don't think that spray kills fleas. I use hotshot flea tick and lice spray. Just spraying them doesn't work well, cover them in a big garbage bag with a 10 sec spray in the bag after you spray them down. Tie the bag shut half way up their back legs and leave them in there for 15-20 min and all the fleas will be dead when you skin them.

every fur bearer gets a dose of flea and tick spray as soon as they are carried into the shop. The floor area below the skinning winch and 10 feet out get a shot as well every few days. If you have pets in your area keep that in mind and your boots and pants legs is a good practice. Beaver are some of the worst at times.

Sounds good. I never sprayed my stuff but now we got a dog so im thinking its a good idea to start. Normally I check before work and skin after so I think im just going to take the spray and garbage bags with and spray and bag them right away. I will pick up some spray that is specifically for fleas, im pretty sure I read the raid flying insect works but I may as well get the spray specific to them, its a cheap insurance.

i thought about throwing them in an old freezer and spray in there and let them sit while i fire up the stove and get stuff ready . would that be to much area for the spray to work with say 2 to five animals at a time and will it work if they are piled on top of each other

Pyrethrin sprays for livestock and fogging agricultural buildings works great. Stick animals in a trash bag, spray for a couple seconds, and tie the bag shut. I let them sit for 15 minutes or so. Kills lice and fleas.

take the spray on the line with you. Bag and spray before you leave the property you’re trapping. They’ll be bug free when you get home

I like the idea of bagging and spraying every animal on the line when you leave the property, before driving home. Never done it before but I think it would be a good practice to get into.

Even if the furbearer has been dead &/or in the water?

beaver fleas can live on an animal, underwater, for days.
