Sheepdog1 shot this buck a couple of evenings ago with a fixed broad head...

That is the back hole behind the shoulder...

He came back in this evening with a hot doe, and he laid the smack down to him with a Rage expandable...

The sure made him sick...

I think the buck would have recovered from the first shot...

Both these bucks are low fence, in Coke County, TX...

Must be something that's not being said. That shot in the back would taken out the heart n lungs. That's my aim point EVERY time I loose an arrow.

X2 a field point would have done in at that placement it looks like.

I have a friend that had it happen on elk before Picture perfect shot and never find it

The lungs could have been in collapsed position when the arrow passed through very unlikely but I’m not gonna say impossible

I am thinking it was a quartering shot, the slice in front was entry, back hole exit, nothing into vitals.

Deer lungs do not collapse to any appreciable amount, unless punctured. Where was the exit hole from the first shot. I deer can last a good while on one lung.

this is Sheepdog1, I am hunting out in the baldies with Uncle BB. I shot this deer Monday afternoon with a ViperTrick. He was broadside at 19 yards. I was hunting in a ground blind shooting my crossbow. The exit was forward of that entry and about 3.5-4 inches higher than the entry hole. I saw the bolt hit the buck and it deflected on a rib and I knew it had exited high as I saw the bolt as it went up into the air, then drop as the buck ran away. This buck came in this afternoon with a doe that is in heat as every buck in this area has been chasing her for the past 5-6 days. He and a 4-5 year old ten point locked up and got after it before the 10 point decided to disengage. I had a 22 yard slight quartering shot and took the shot. He only ran about 65 yards before cutting a flip. I had to know what happened or didn't happen with that first shot placement. I have taken over 100 deer with a compound/recurve combination over the past 41 years. I saw no damage to the lungs other than the huge slice from the 2" expandable head I shoot. There was no sanguos fluid in the blood that I could detect. This has blown my mind and since the night I originally shot this buck I have been scratching my head and calling every experienced bowhunter that I know and asking them if they had ever seen or heard of a deer being shot like this and not succumbing from the massive hemorrhage that is typical. I have never seen this before and I hope I never do again. I lost some sleep over this one because I knew the shot placement was where I have shot a lot of deer over the years.
There was no infection on the entry side, the exit side or inside of the ribcage.

Folks, that is how this occurred. It is by far the most bizarre hunting event I have ever encountered in all of my years of hunting and I don't care to experience it again.

Arrow must have deflected straight up or very close to that to not take out lungs! Glad it was taken. Deer sure can be tough critters!

I had shot a doe a few years ago with that exact shot placement. Went home for a coffee and hour later went to retrieve my deer. I jumped her so I left and came back another hour later and found her. Never would I have believed that deer would have gone so long and far with that shot placement. I can see it happening. Congrats you had the chance for buck fever twice on the same deer.

Well you are the master of BS so if you say it is then it must be true. Everyone doesn't kill every deer every shot except you.......

Law of gravity at it's finest . Lungs and all organs lay lower than you think. Plus shooter was on the ground. Most hunters think all shots are taken from above. No angle less chance of hitting vitals
