Years ago , I stocked up on Remington Thunderbolts. I was in Florida in a Kmart. They had them on sale for $8.80 a brick. This was a common price at the time , on sale. I bought 2 cases (20 bricks) Took them and put them away in ammo cans. Shot some but still had a good stash.
Years later , during when the price skyrocketed and you would almost be lucky to find some and people were paying some crazy prices when did find some , I sold the bulk of it all to a gun dealer for $30 a brick. He probably flipped it for even more.
Currently waiting for it to bottom out some more, then I'll resupply. Still have the empty ammo cans.
I joke with people , I tell them I don't invest in gold or silver , I invest in lead and brass. $8.80 to $30.00 is a very good return on an investment , better than most stocks.

I won't shoot the thunderbolts, they're nasty. But, I loves me some Rem goldens. You can find some great deals on them if your diligent.

I stocked up on several brands yrs ago but found a lot of them had loose bullets in the casing which I’ve found before. I’ve found 1 in 10 miss fire but I’m ok with that since I only shoot them out of my revolver to dispatch. I’m getting them for about $15 a brick here so I’ll probably stock up again before 2020.
I can explain it to you, but I can't understand it for you.

Local supply store here has the same bullets for $24 this week (500), another place a few weeks ago had the Federal Black box 1600 rounds for $49.

The reason I bumped this thread to the top is so I could see the going price for .22 ammo. I am not an ammo geek so it can be tricky to know a good price when you see one.

You can get 3 Boxes Winchester Xpert Ammunition 22 Long Rifle 36 Grain Lead Hollow Point Box of 500 for $50 shipped to you from Midway as well. Much better ammo than the Thunderbolts IMO. Agree with you about the quality of Thunderbolts, as Ive had around 10% failure rate with them. This was with 3 seperate rifles. Removed the bullet and there was no priming compound. I’m told all the .17 wsm is made by Winchester and my Bmag likes the 25gr. I have a minimum of three non fires Per box of 25. I suspect the quality control of Winchester rimfire rounds is very poor. I think they are doing a very poor job of spinning the primer powder into the casings. Rimfire s are pretty simple rounds, finding problems should be easy. I would never buy any Winchester ammo if there were options. Osky

I'm thinking there is going to be some great deals during Black Friday sales

Had a old box of Xperts that I was shooting years ago the price was under $10 for 500 so they were old stock. Had fits with my S/W .22 pistol then I put new bullets through it and it worked fine I figured the Experts had lost their power over the years sitting in the gun case.

if I am shooting targets for score I want CCI standard velocity 25 to 29 a brick
555 for other stuff been getting the 555 for about 21-23 dollars
thunderbolts , are a dirty ammo even in a bolt action , but I got a few bricks of them that were so dirty the 10/22 would only run for about 70 rounds after a cleaning before it was a jam-o-matic the same gun would run 300+ of the 555 or cci agreed, Thunderbolts are dirty shooters. CCI burn cleaner and are more accurate for me out of a 10/22 and the Walther UZI.

No thunder bolts for me and my 10/22

How's the price for .22 ammo in your neck of the woods? Is it going up? My curiosity is killing me.
