Last night was a special night for my ten year old and I. This kid has put in a lot of hard work and it finally paid off, after two weekends of many miles on his hiking boots and blown stalks and no shot opportunities he finally got his deer! We set off hiking an hour and a half before dark, got way back in some steep public land away from the road hunters. With about 20 minutes of legal shooting light left I spotted this across the draw from us, standing up watching us. I set up my 270 on the bipod and he got on it and made a good shot at 236 yards, the buck hunched up, slow walked downhill and laid down 20 yards away, after a couple minutes it stood up but almost immediately went back down and rolled down the hill. I didn’t have a flashlight so we decided to gut him and come back in the morning to pack him out. Then when we got back to him this morning I realized there was a two track that goes within a hundred yards of him lol. Pretty proud of my son, he’s earned it.
"I have two guns, one for each of ya."

What a great trophy!!! Have him write the story of the hunt and whatever he remembers from the weeks leading up to it. You will both be glad he wrote it down.
Life sure is tough when you don't learn from the mistakes of others.
