And if you were strapped in was all ok. Had a young girl get killed here this week that probably wasn’t. I just got one and Wife’s a little nervous about mine now.

I don’t have a utv but I have friends that do, and they drive em like they stole em cause they’re jackwagons. They’ve rolled them several times and nobody has been hurt except one guy broke his arm I think. The harnesses work, also what works is if you drive it like a sane person

I’ve had to help two coworkers winch theirs back over after they tipped over, neither were wearing a belt and we’re fine. Just don’t act like a moron going 70 on gravel showing off after a dozen Busch lites like most of the accidents around here and you’ll be fine.

I came really close one time. Got way to crazy chasing cows back in on a road once. Had it sliding sideways at a pretty good rate of speed. Scared me pretty good but I always put my seat belt on since then. You have to get really bold with one to roll it.

I have had a couple close calls but so far I have 3 out of 4 wheels on the ground the last 7 years.

I had a good friend ranch owner in Kansas that rolled one a few years back and died of his injuries. He was an older man that was chasing coyotes which is often the social event on the weekends for many in that flat open country. I still think about him to this day and miss our annual visits. He was a big help in getting thousands of acres of ground for me to trap in my first few years out there.

Keep safe boys as these things can kill or disable you by accident or by just being reckless as some seem to have to do at times.

they are like cars . basically equally as dangerous , but people treat them like toys.

then you look at the circumstances of the accident your likely to find several points of negligence.

speed , safety belt , inexperienced driver , possibly too many people in/on

people tend to jump to the same it's dangerous like they do with guns because they don't understand them, why they don't draw that line to cars I suppose because they are so common and they use one every day.
like anything the details , if you wear your belt and drive safety , were you driving responsibly

most all gun incidents are people breaking all the rules , being reckless , stupid negligent , irresponsible.
most all utv incidents are people breaking all the rules , being reckless , stupid negligent , irresponsible.

people don't think of tractors as dangerous , because they go slow , we have lost 4 kids in our county 4-H to ztr lawn mowers , tractor , falling out the back of a pickup , tractor again.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Cousin rolled one. Hand got crushed because he grabbed a bar when it rolled over.

I bought one for the grounds crew at work. They were driving like morons. I took the regular key away from them and they now have the yellow key. The yellow key is governed to 25mph. Fast enough for grounds work.

I was slowly tramming on a side hill and a large embedded rock is right in my narrow road I use and had to roll up on it with front tire.. ATV is no problem because it is narrow enough to go beside rock but when the back tire went up on the rock it got a little light on that side and the wheel left the ground. I’m going to bring rock hammer home from work and drill it and try to bust it out of the way. Clearing the old four wheeler trail to the back strip job and the cage makes it tougher getting through the woods but boy it’ll be great getting back into most places.

Only time I rolled one was because a binding failed at it came off the trailer on a gravel road. I rolled off the back of one when I was 5 or 6 cause I didn't hold on to the rear rack hard enough.

For some reason all you have to do is put someone on either a boat, ATV, or snowmachine and many of those folks think that all the rules pertaining to safe operation of a motor vehicle become null-and-void.
A lot of guys who wouldn't think of pounding down a six pack and driving a car somehow think it's okay to do the same and then get on an ORV and drive like crazy.

I haven't rolled one yet myself but I have been there when they were rolled and have responded to a bunch of them as well. If the crash was a low speed rollover/flip and the person was strapped in and wearing a helmet with rigid doors and overhead protection they have walked away without injury though their nerves were shot. In high speed crashes strapped in, wearing a helmet with rigid doors and overhead protection the results have varied from no injuries to fairly significant injuries. In high speed crashes with out the use of a restraint system, helmet or other protection the result has always been severe injury or death.

The reason I mention rigid doors and overhead protection is that in our part of the country there are all kinds of stumps, stobs, rocks etc that can impact the person as the UTV rolls or flips that can inflict injury to the occupants. I doubt you are going to operate yours like a wild man but the risk of injury increases exponentially with speed. Also if you realize you are about to flip or roll just pull your hands/arms in tight to your body and ride it out, no one is strong enough to grab something and keep it from crashing once you have reached the point of no return but the machine is more than heavy enough to break, crush or damage anything outside the "cage of protection". While the UTVs are generally much more stable both side to side and front to rear than ATVs due to the lower center of gravity, wider footprint and longer wheelbase they are still at the mercy of the laws of physics it is just that the point of no return is farther along the scale.

If you always scout unfamiliar routes before you reach the point of no return and are forced into a bad situation to get out of where you are at, the likelihood of a crash is greatly reduced. The first trip through an area scout from a turn around point to the next turn around point before proceeding.

I almost rolled my Ranger 900 yesterday. I was going slow through a big mud hole trying to stay on the high ground and one side slid in a deep rut. The mud was 3' deep or so I found. If I go up side down in a dam mud hole or in a stream I surly dont want to be strapped in.
