Almost drive past one of my sets this morning thinking it was empty. Then I heard some commotion and I had a decent raccoon in it. His eyes would not reflect light from my truck headlights, mag-lite or LED head lamp. Blind maybe? His eyes do look a bit off, kinda like glaucoma.

They don't always look at the light. Have shot a lot of them out of a tree hunting with hounds that never looked at the light. Just sprawled out on a limb like a squirrel or hunched down in a fork to hide.

Sometimes red, sometimes green; yet always got at least a quick flash from 'em. No eye shine at all is a new one on me.

Hunting them, I noticed they didn't shine real well if were close or had a strong light.

Wouldn't that because it just washed the reflection out?

Yep, that's why I asked how close. Strong lights do the same.

The joke at the fur buyer was the way you could tell hunted coon from trapped coon was the bullet holes in the coon forearms. It was from them putting their arms across their eyes to block bright light.
I run almost every morning with a headlight. Coons running away or across from me dont have eyes that shine until they stop and look at me. Then they always shine.

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

Maybe you didn't have any light in your eyes. LOL Ok don't laugh. If you don't have a small amount in your eyes animal eyes don't reflect back to you. Do this for All you non believers (bucksnbears) Next time you see a cat . dog . animal in a trap. Hold your flashlight down by your side. Then raise it up slowly towards your face. Magic they come to light.....
