Lakes are frozen up good now, but could use some more snow. Today I went out to check a trail camera that I set out early May. I planned to make it back out to the camera much sooner to see if anything had checked out some carcasses I left in the area, but the water was too high to reach it until now. Got to look through 1200 pictures over 6 months. Got pictures of 9 different species (didn't post the blurred weasel). Surprised there were no fox pictures as I know fox are in the area. Also, never got to see what grabbed the carcasses, but by the time the leaves fell they were gone.

about 50 of Red Squirrels


the remaining 50 or so pictures were all the other species







Once the carcasses were gone (not sure when that happened) there was nothing special our unique to this spot to bring critters in. They just happened in front of the camera.

One my way out to the camera I stopped to check my blackfish trap and one fox trap and on the way home stopped and got a pike and a burbot out of the river. Good day!

Camera seemed to be fine other than a few cobwebs.

Here are the blackfish. Bottom one is about 8 inches long.

There ain't many folks that trap blackfish. Curious where in Alaska you are? Are you eating them?
