Heard on the news today there is some new law was going to the POTUS today with hopes he will sign it..From what little I heard sounds like it might be a bad deal for trappers..Said want to make it a Federal Crime to harm or kill a pet.. Ok I get that. What I didn't like was sounded like it made specific reference to what the methods of cruelty was or included.... ie Killing or harming by Drowning, Stomping, Crushing, etc..
Wonder how that wording, might play with a trapper if someones pet got where didn't belong.
Some group trying to sneak something by with different intent in mind?

Is this for real? so all them so called family pets i have to knock off every year ,for running my cattle. i can be in federal court for? Where can i find the readup on this?

Most local laws already in place are as bad or worse than those.

Our laws up until about 10 years ago said you couldn't even put your own pet down. There was a lawsuit about someone doing this and the courts ruled the law was bad, so that got stricken.

Like I said above, most local laws are worse.

People, even some on here, are ridiculous with the pet parent thing. I get it, you love your dog. I don’t, and I don’t have to. It’s already illegal in Ohio to kill your own pet. No, better you got to the vet and pay money to have them put it down. Ridiculous. Russ Carman wrote a book called “The Illusions of Animal Rights”. In it he mentions it becoming like a religion. Written in 1990 he called it correctly. Farm boy here, dogs in the house were unheard when I was young. Only rich urban dwellers would have something like that. Now it seems everyone does, and treats them like royalty. Most of which don’t do a durn thing but eat and get petted. Well, here we are. In a nutshell most Americans are so far removed from the farm and ranch and hunting life traditional animal roles are being reversed. Replaced by pampered do nothings, with more laws and regs making it sacrosanct to do anything other fawn over and baby talk to animals.

The FEDERAL law being proposed specifically exempts euthanasia. I am certain a bullet in the head qualify's as euthanasia.

Local law could be most anything. Personally I would not pay a vet to put down my dog no matter what the law said.

I don't have a problem with people who think a dog is their child I just feel sorry for them that an animal has to replace real family.

It is veterinary associations making it illegal to shoot your dog. If they want to make something illegal it should be illegal to abandon or dump a pet. That IS cruel.

I love it when a pet owner living in the country lets his dog run loose and then tells me that his dog never leaves the yard. I just have to laugh and say then why did I catch the dog 2 miles from your house yesterday. This happens several times each year. They then get mad at me. If they really want to make a good pet law they should make a national law that requires your pet be on a leash at all time or be in a pen. The only exception would be if you are hunting he could be off leash
