My son and I are starting our second year trapping and he finally got his first fox. He put two sets out Wednesday after school behind our house a dirt hole and a urine post set. He checked them at 5:00am and they were empty. After school I told him he should check again since we had a daytime pic of a fox Sunday morning. When he went to look he had what I’m told is a cross fox a color variation of a red in his urine post set. Thanks for all the great posts on here that helped us out. Looks like I’ll be getting this one mounted.

Nice, I've caught my share of fox in Pa, but never caught a cross fox. Good deal. Congrats.

Beautiful animal. That would be going to the tannery for sure if it were mine.

I have nothing clever to put here.

Good on your son and you. Sounds like he's learning quickly. I've never caught one here but the neighbors tell me of seeing "black foxes" so maybe we have cross foxes here too. I get a lot of them that are what you guys call silver, but never one like that.

Keep it up.

Pete

Awesome. Enjoy it. Take pictures. Take pictures. Take pictures. Can't tell exactly how old your boy is but he is close to the age of when my boy got me addicted to trapping. Now he is Marine Corp Boot Camp and I am trapping by myself. It is unbelievable to me up that we don't have pictures of him in the field with his first coyote, muskrat, fox. Kinda tearing up just writing this.

Looking at the pictures your cross fox doesn't look black and red it appears a grayish blue color. If it is its a cross between a red and a pearl ranch raised fox which is called a Dakota gold in ranching terms. Would there be or have been a fox farmer in your area that it could have gotten away. Not to take away from your great catch it is a very nice fox and congratulations on catching it.Will make a very nice mount if you choose to do so.
