You don't need a flag. block that trail down and leave a gap for the trap and a hole.

That little pile of wood on the right side is THE SPOT, lure/urine maybe a little polyfil scattered around. Should pay off.
That trail is tight enough you have no need for "flagging"
Unless it has lots of traffic do what Danny said, block it down make a walk through and go.

Unless it has lots of traffic do what Danny said, block it down make a walk through and go. It does get some deer traffic too, but I’ve had many trail camera pics of cats here. I guess I was thinking I may need the flagging just to get them to stop in front of the set, and then they would see my cubby back there, and investigate. But if you guys don’t think I need flagging, Im good with that too.

Here is the cubby I made a couple years ago, just to put a trail camera on, on video mode. Well of course the sd card format failed and I couldn’t get info off of it. But something took my little decoy out of the back and flung it out into the middle of the road. Who knows, maybe coon or something, not sure a cat would do that?

You don't need a cubby either unless your expecting a lot of snow. That location should hit. Something like that I don't even look for sign. I just set it.

I would pile up whatever is lying around. On each side of that two track blocking it down so that the track on the right is left bare. Funnel the animal right on to the trap you have bedded there.

Look for some cedar branches the bottom ones are longer and curve cut it close to the tree and it will work as a place to hang a attractor.

For cubbies like that get you some of those pin wheels you can buy for like a buck a piece. Put one behind the cubbie. The lightest breeze makes em spin too. I"m thinking about using some cubbies for my 12/26 season, partly because of the snow issue that someone mentioned. I don't know how much a cat wants to enter a cuby. They enter cage traps without fear though I heard. I might buy 1 of those pinwheels to try. It seems like Wi trappers generally have found benefit in shying away from fancy flagging though, but I could be wrong.

I just built a cubby for bobcat here and tossed a beaver carcass in. Looks like a survival shelter. 4 inch love up sides and a line now roof. Bad a bobcat pulling carcass out first night. Now he just lays in it eating since I tossed the beaver back after the first night. All my cubbies are walk through. Work great here. If a bobcat won't go in just add a drop of skinny stuff inside and they will move on in.
Wish I had more time to trap....

Do you sometimes use foothold traps with cubbies and when you do do you put the foothold under the cubbie or judt outside of it?

Do you sometimes use foothold traps with cubbies and when you do do you put the foothold under the cubbie or judt outside of it? If you are only using 1 leghold, place it "outside" at entrance to cubby. Using 2 traps (1 outside and 1 inside right at the bait) is never a bad strategy. Pete
