Hey guys just was wondering what is the jaw spread on victor #4 long spring traps and how would they be for beaver trapping? Thanks guys.

Back in the day the #4 long spring was the go-to trap for beaver trapping. I still like them, although I prefer the old Blake and Lamb to the Victor.

That's how I learned to trap beaver anyway; front foot.
I still can't figure out where this new notion came from to target for a hind foot catch. The front foot results in a beaver whose nose is down at the drowning sack, whereas a hind foot catch can make it easier for him to get his nose up out of the water in marginal depths. Plus a hind foot is a lot more slippery than a front foot. Maybe the switch came along when they came out with the #5's and they needed a sales pitch to sell traps, a #5 is too much trap imo (extra weight, space, etc).
