Hey guys, I was wondering how you guys go about trapping k9s in cut cornfields? I know they love hunting these due to mice and rabbits, but my success has been limited. I’ve found where they travel edges, ditches, and certain rows, but do I have to take a different approach setting these as opposed to bean or hay fields? Thanks

Same deal bud. Set on travel routes. Corners are typically good. Low breaks where they can move undetected. That’s where I catch mine.

I keep desperately hoping that one day someone will call me "Sir" without adding "please calm down" or "you're causing a scene."

For whatever reason soybeans leave dirt soft and crumbly and corn leaves it with a tendency to make clods. Other than that I cant see a difference. If you have picked up any Tbones cut 3-5 corn stalks and dig them in close to one already there. Makes a good backing. That bone really stands out. Solves a lot of problems trying to find backing/make a hole. A step down is good too. A big clod with a trench in front of it. Trap in the trench and dirthole in the bottom of it at the clod end. Clod on top the ground at the end of your trench. A pile of chaf makes a good backing for a dirthole in bean stubble.

Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

Stay in touch with the farmer to make sure they aren't going to plow the day after you set!!!

I see the term "cut corn fields" used a lot on this forum. Where I live a cut corn field is a field of corn harvested for corn silage and there is no residue left on the field and it will soon get 8-16,000 gallons of liquid dairy manure.
Combined fields leave a lot of trash or stalks and coon, deer, yotes etc. feed in them for quite some time after the field is combined, which they do not do on the silage fields. There is a lot of cover yet in the combined fields unless they use thresh shredders and or go over the fields with other equipment, before applying the manure.
