Thinking real hard about going trapping in Mississippi. Any advice you might give will be appreciated.

Mississippi hair {fur} pays less than Indiana fur. But at todays market, it probably won't make a difference.

One thing i have heard quite a few times for the guys from the North going down south to trap is it is wetter than they thought and be prepared for water levels if you are water trapping to raise and lower significantly the whole time you are down there. There was a podcast on trapping today of someone that went trapping down south and they discussed the differences and things to know. It was put together pretty well. Not for sure who Jwood was interviewing maybe Kyle Kaatz but i cant remember. Know about the water and being wet though is good advice to know.

Being from South Mississippi the wet part is spot on. It is really cooling down even on the coast. That is kinda unusual this time of year. I have deer hunted Christmas eve in a T shirt. Be prepared for temperature swings. Our laws are very liberal with hardly any restrictions on trap sizes except land conibears max 10x10. snaring is liberal. Have a little restriction about bait at set and within so many feet can only be the size of a golf ball. Lot's of public land. Deer youth season starts tomorrow so there will be lot's of hunters everywhere. They run deer with dogs here so keep that in mind. Also a lot of rabbit hunters that use beagles that runs through Feb. You will find it a friendly place with lots of animals. Our fur isn't much so it's pretty much a fun thing. I deer hunt in Shipshiwana every year but some medical test are going to keep me close to home this year. Oh our trap tagging requirements are weird but not bad. Once you buy your license your license number is all thats required on the tag or the trap. If you have private land especially around big agriculture you should do well and have fun. Remember the mud down here is no joke. It can go one of two ways. Either slick as goose crap or gumbo sticky.

They don't have friendly snakes down there, especially in the wet areas...
