The PA season opened up a couple weeks ago now, and I haven't been having much luck as far as fox and coyotes go. I did everything the same as previous years as type of sets and prep work. I have around a dozen and a half set, which is quite a bit less than I normally do, but all in locations that have produced in the past. They haven't been working my sets and I know I should have caught a couple by now. Thoughts? I am going to try and get some more out tomorrow and I am looking for some things to try and change.

Deer season perhaps? Too many easy pickins to bother with rotten meat. When I was trapping in Ky I never had much luck with coyotes until a couple of weeks into the season. Trapping opened on the Monday following the Sat opening of the firearms deer season. My sets were no match for all the gut piles and unrecovered deer.

Archery deer season is in, and the one farm has a dead calf the dumps once and a while, but I was thinking they should be working the sets off of curiosity even if they're not hungry. I have caught canines off that farm the last few years with him dumping stuff out, so I didn't pay much attention to it. Not that many archery deer are taken anyway in my area, plus I trap this time every year and never had any problems.

It seems some years that happens. When that happens to me i go strictly to flat well blended sets and change up my lures. Normally for me that happens after a year of hitting them pretty hard. That scenario is unfolding for me this year. I set up one farm that i hit hard last year and the results are what i expected, not like last year. To me it just seems the animals rebound better from one year to the next at certain areas. I also set locations that i would consider secondary, not prime. Just my 02

First week I did well then crickets 🦗. Picked up a few coons now even the dang opossums are missing too

Did pick up a badger but man it’s just awful here for me

Every day is a gift from GOD, don't waste it!!

If they have plenty of food, give them something interesting to smell

Plenty of formulations that will catch coyotes whether they are hungry or not.

Some times my coyote spots will stall out like that. It is as if they just go somewhere else for a spell. I just leave the sets and wait them out. Always looking for them in the mean time. I am not in the highest population density area for coyote.

Wish I had more time to trap....

If you've hit them pretty hard in the past, the remaining coyotes might've caught on to your game. Are you using the same sets, baits and lure? That would be my guess. That or you could've had a population crash.

Yeah I took quite a few from the locations in the past. I did have a few trail cameras up this summer and there were some young ones running around. I think I am going to just try setting other a couple other places, thanks everyone.

There's no way to give a really accurate answer, because there are too many variables. Last fall I'd hear howls around the farm from three different directions, this fall real quiet compared to last. Why don't I hear them as much, could be any number of factors.
