Not sure if he's a biggin but he filled up the 330 pretty good. Skinned and froze. Gonna need a better fleshing knife before I attempt fleshing.

Congrats on your first otter. They scrape nice and clean if they have a bit of fat under the saddle.

Looks like young of the year to me, unless your otters run smaller than ours.
They are a bear to scrape, but the leather is tough so its hard to gouge a hole in it.

I have to send in a tooth sample to the state. They will tell me how old he is. I'll post pics when he's put up.

Thinking about where his nose was when he hit the trigger and how fast a 330 snaps shut - he was MOVING!

Looks like the trap was set horizontal and not vertical. Otter have a tendency to get those nose past the trigger before tripping the trap with a front leg which gets them so deep in the trap.

Wish I had more time to trap....

Trap was vertical but he must have hit it sideways. I think your right about hitting the trigger with the front foot. Lots of open space in a 330.

I catch a lot of otters in 330s like that no matter how I arrange the triggers. They don't putter around like beavers.
