My little mut girl is very touchy about getting her nails clipped.

I just do 2 or 3 nails at a time, give her a treat and wait a few days.

My cur, I can just hold him tight and do all 4 feet.

My buddy uses his bench grinder to his dogs toe nails. But That would be a bit more stressful. LOL

Just do not cut to the quick. With some dogs if that happens they will be paranoid forever.

It seems easier for mine when they are standing. I just pick up each foot like a horse. I think the dogs always started getting nervous when I would have them lay down, then start messing with their feet. They didnt feel comfortable when laying down. now I just go up without making a big deal about it.

Maybe just have her stand and pick up one foot at a time for a couple days without clipping and see how she does.

Well he may be a little big for the bag trick but I have two smaller dogs that are real pains. I cut an old gym bag with leg holes and hand the bag in the air (their feet are off the ground). This mellows them right out. Pics on the net I'm sure.

Having a helper feed them peanut butter while you cut can really help, too.

Taking mine to the vet this afternoon. Getting too old to wrestle with a yellow lab. LOL

When you get a puppy, play with its feet and toes frequently and trim it's nails frequently, to get it used to being trimmed. All the dogs I have handled this way had had no issues with having their nails trimmed.

Adult dogs can be very, very hard to train to allow their nails trimmed. Muskrat's idea can help.

I'll be following this thread. I got my lab as a puppy and worked at playing with her feet and toes and her mouth so I can trim her nails and take things out of her mouth no problem. But my wife got her dog before we got together and he is a rescue and was already a year old when she got him. He doesn't like his feet touched much at all. Best we can do is give him a couple milk bones and trim one nail a day.

Let the dog be normal and live outside.

We have to bring our dog to the vet where they do it and still have a hard time. We have to give her some tranquilzers a hour before we go.

I have a mini dachshund that is that way. Did the clippers for years, had the vet do them for a while. Best thing now is a dremel with a sanding drum. Works quickly, let's you work slow enough not to get into the quick. Dog tolerates it. Still use 2 people, 1 to grind, 1 to hold the dog to make it a bit easier.

I put my dogs in a chest harness and use my ceiling mounted electric hoist to hoist them up in the air. With all 4 feet off the ground they don't struggle much.

Mine does better with a stranger doing hers if we get within a foot of her with the clippers she is already freaking out for $10 they can deal with it. The skunk we do ourselves she is a lot easier.

I can’t even get near my dog with a pair of clippers, he knows what they are lol

Same way when I try to comb him he runs and tries to dodge me, lol, so I just take to the vet or groomers
