That was my brothers best buddy. He goes when we are tearing out beaver dams. Loves chewing on beaver. Calls him JJ.
Not sure how that top picture got turned sideways. I'm blaming Les, he told me how to post pictures from my phone> LOL

Rally, where did the new one come from?
LOL,every time I think my old guy has breathed his last,he bounces back.My wife is now giving some medicine she had for her knees--Glaucoimine--seems to help his hind quarters.
Poor guy got old right along with us.

From the mouth of a retired veterinarian,"I wouldn't let my dog eat any uncooked meat". Just passing on.

My labs have always gotten the fresh, uncooked heart from any game they flushed for me and I was able to kill. Here is one of my best hunters waiting anxiously for a pheasant heart. He had 10 of them last week. I’ve been doing this for 40 years and have never noticed any ill affects other than smelly farts. All my labs lived to a ripe old age.

Amen Cotton. That female lab laying with the 5 month old Springer Spaniel, just turned 15 on September 1st. Her sire (Tracker) a black lab. lived to just shy of 15. Their winter diet has been beaver their entire life, like all the dogs before them.

Tom,
The puppy (Cash) was given to my oldest grandson, as a wedding gift. A nice gesture, but a bit presumptuous, considering they live in a rented townhouse that doesn't allow pets. They tried to keep it out of sight, until they had planned to move out in December, to a country home. The move fell through for now and they have a new daughter 6 weeks old. I've been puppy sitting him when they go anywhere, and he loves it here with my dogs, can run any time, and Hank, my three year old chocolate lab, thinks he is a pretty dandy playmate. So Grandpa got a new puppy, probably my last.
Cash is full of P&V, and has some bad habits, like jumping up wherever he wants and running wild indoors. Takes about twenty minutes running with my dogs to settle him down. He's smart as a whip and has his nose in everything. When I went and got him yesterday he found the gloves I drug my deer out with in about two seconds in the truck. I've had him out several times checking traps and he enjoys that a great deal. Had a live rat he baled in on, and found out they bite back! He's getting educated. Connie thinks he's cute and gave him a bath one day when he had to go back home, and she agreed to the adoption. Good women! LOL

I've always liked springer spanials. One of these days I own one if I can ever break my new-lab-every-five-years routine.

First dog I got when we got married was a springer,he was water retrieving ducks at 10 months.Great family dog also. They do get very protective.
Going into Canada when he was 11 months old,the border guard was going to put me through (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman). He made one mistake,he stuck his head in my window and reached for my glove compartment.I caught the pup by the collar as he made a roaring leap for the guard. The guard and my pup were face to face just inside my window.I watched as the color drained out of the guards face and he turned--snow white. He backed out of my window and said--sir,you can go on your way.
I have been dog lucky and had some great ones.
My lab is 14 1/2,think he has had 2 or 3 strokes in the last few months. But he still marches on and loves us completely-a truly wonderful animal.
Good dogs--you gotta love em. Good wives also help.
And I have been blessed with both.
Tom
