That I would say was a sign...What are the odds of stopping in just the right spot to see something that small?? Were you on a trail? maybe just the easiest path along there?
Years ago I was tracking a poorly hit deer threw a small marsh in a big public woods..Like you I stopped, not to take a breather but to scan for that next small pin spot of blood..What did I see? there lays one the small Maglites take two AA batteries.. Batteries were still good..To this day I have to wonder who dropped it. Most likely a bow hunter as this was opening of gun deer.. Just seemed funny I'd find that little light randomly in big woods and not a main trail.
Mac My wife and I were Spring Gobbler hunting in the woods about 10 yrs ago and stopped to listen or call and she looked down and there was a camo headlight in the leaves. I couldn't see it at first! I wondered how long that was there? Picked it up and hit the switch and it came on! She still uses it.

Not on the trap line, but I was duck hunting with my brother and 2 friends several years back. The ducks kept swinging wide by about 120 yds. So, I went on a walk about to see what was over there they wanted more than where we were at. As I was wading in the knee deep water, I kick something hard. I reach down in the water and pull up a hard side gun case. I kept walking and see some decoys. So I sat my gun down and opened the gun case I just discovered and found a shotgun inside. There were 3 dz duck decoys, thrown around (not in any particular pattern), 12 goose decoys scattered throughout. I sat on a stump and looked down while I was calling for my friends to come over, and found a thermos, 2 boxes of shells, a sock hat, and a pair of gloves. Me and my crew spent the next hour poking brush looking for a body, because we knew no one would leave that much equipment there. Never found anything that led us to believe there may have been foul play. I left a note in the sign-in box for folks to "call and claim lost gear" no one called. I worked for the PD at the time, and ran the numbers on the shotgun, it was not used in any crime, nor was it ever reported stolen. It was very strange situation. I seriously felt sick, because I was just sure someone had got hurt or swamped a boat or something bad happened to just leave that much gear.
The thing that makes it even more odd is that Me, my brother and one of our friends had hunted the same spot until 11am the day before and that stuff was NOT there! and no one was there on the week day when we were hunting that morning either.

Back in early 1980s was checking fox traps along edge of picked corn field. On my way back to truck I notice what thought was trash stuck to corn stub. Turned out was a balloon with a plastic bag and envelope in the bag..Opened the envelope it had a note in it. Was from grade school kid lived up by Twin Cities. Don't recall now what town.. They had released the balloons as a class science project about wind.. So I wrote a little note about where and how I found the balloon sent it to the address on the note.. Couple weeks later got a thank you for returning the info on the balloon and a hand made book marker as a gift..Not really a strange find but interesting. Think I still have the letter and book mark here somewhere in all my old crap??

I was trapping beaver on a friend's place on the Crow Indian Reservation and as I was sitting a trap on a crossover my boot slipped and I stuck my hand into the 330 after removing myself I dug around to figure out what had caused my foot to slip off and found a bull buffalo skull before that was a shed elk antler up in the Big Horn Mtns where it was possible to find elk but buffalo weren't around on that part of the reservation.

Some years ago while elk hunting in Colorado, a buddy and I hiked up a mountain. He went farther up than I did. While up there he found numerous sea shells. They were very fragile and some crumbled when he came down. But, they were without a doubt seashells as some remained intact. What were they doing near the top of a mountain?

Trapper7 ever hear of the flood and Noah's ark? That's the first thing that came to mind between my buddy and I. Not much better proof, IMO. Of course, the naysayers will have some other excuse.

Oh the weird crap we have found over the years. When the boys were young they got a kick out of what the beavers in this creek were using to build a new dam with. Literally junk, talk about being resourceful. The toilet seat made them laugh. This next pic is a large male coon I found when checking my sets late one night. It was a huge boar....but not live it was killed and mostly eaten. Now a big boar is a force of nature....and this one was caught by the back foot so still had 3 feet and a face full of teeth to fight with. Pretty eerie scene to walk up on with a little flashlight on a windy dark night. But that was a (This word is unacceptable on Trapperman) of a battle. This was in a dryland coon set with a 1.5 coil. I found a lot of cool stuff over the years too. Arrow heads, bones, teeth, claws, you name it. Found an old wallet one year and was able to return it to the landowner, he was tickled though the contents were mostly destroyed by the elements. Jim

Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.
