coonman- Do you do like to gamble at all...? Still hoping for that small percent of your coon that go $20, $25+? That was sort of the appeal of NAFA for me. But, those have been ore the exceptions the past number of years instead of the rule. The average grinds it down when all your critters go into the pile over time. You've gotten a lot of advice to do some experimenting by testing out various outlets in your area, both local buyers and those that do routes. Have some strategy; send a third ot FHA if you want to try them out and 2/3rds to 2 other places and see what happens. Most likely not a coon year so its a good time to experiment and see what works for you. Only you know what makes you happy,

In some years, I've found sending the best of the best and the worst to auction houses and selling the main part locally works best. But where you live, I'd sell it all to Groeny this year.

coonman- Last year I had 15.4% of my coon (and I don't catch a lot so I don't know how this would play out over several hundred) went $20 or more. And last year was much better for me (and I sent more in) than the previous year. So, yeah, if you want 25-35-45% of your coon to go north of an old Jackson this year, I don't think there is any selling venue that will satisfy you...

How about you take some to the Iowa Trappers Auction All the power in the midwest is at that sale. For crying out loud there are way more places to sell in Iowa than any where else in the country.

Your biggest and best coon ???? Will command a better price in the country if you find the right guys imo like all fur.
Nafa was the King of selling the junk sec 111 commercial type.
I would call around and find a good buyer,, Broker,,, go from there.

Some times an auction is the best place for top prices. Some times it is a country buyer. Depends on the item, the market, the buyer.

If you are insistent on selling at an international auction, FHA is the only one currently handling wild fur. So you have no choice. Even though they strive to get good prices, there is no guarantee you will get the top price.

The same buyers that bought your coon at NAFA will most likely be buying coon at FHA this season.

If I were you, I would stop worrying about this, go out and trap a bunch of coon, put them up and ship them to FHA for their March sale. The last receiving date is mid January, so you’ve got plenty of time.

Good Luck.

Commission is 11 percent, shipping charge is $12 unless goods sold is under $100, I doubt you will get advance and you should seriously look at not doing that option. Not at 18 percent interest.

It seems to me that as we lose more and more regional, local and other buyers more and more fur will end up in fewer and fewer hands. To some that may not be a big issue but to me what I feel may take place is that now a higher percentage of the fur will be purchased by fewer more concentrated or larger scope buyers or brokers Many local and regional buyers had created outlets for some or all of their fur or in some cases specific species or even specific sizes or qualities of species. As these providers disappear those utilizing those buyers will now need to source their fur from fewer brokers. Now those that buy in great volume can and will control even more the price of the furs and by doing so they can capture those needing fur in smaller amounts as well as the large commodity furrier customers. This way they can actually provide the fur for the same or similar price but the volume buyers can probably buy at overall lower prices to fill the broader spectrum of their needs.

One of the things I did become aware of by shipping fur to auctions the last 15 or so years is that dealers could and did form dealer lots and in most cases I would not know what prices those lots actually sold for. It would make sense to me that the non dealer fur then would be the "bait" if you will to find out where the market is at or going and prices could be determined based on those sales. This to me would be one reason why local dealers could find and have markets at the auctions and still pay competitive prices to get their furs.

Bryce
