Interesting that Walmart opened up it's own milk facility.
I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

I expect to see several small farms in my area close because of this. The dairy industry is very resilient, but this is a kin to Nafa Declaring bankruptcy after many years of poor fur prices. Only much worse

You’re right it isn’t good, dad always said when the milk subsidy kick in it meant the dairy farmers were lucky to feed their cows, and hasn’t it been in affect on and off for the 10 years.
There have been types and aspects of dairy subsidies since 1949. The largest or biggest ones that created the major changes were the ones in the late 1970s that attached the price of milk to a higher level of parity and milk prices rose substantially for about 3-4 years and there was significant government purchases of dairy surpluses. That triggered efforts to make the dairy subsidy more market driven and that has been the case for about 35 years. Major changes evolved after the Green Bay Cheese exchange was discontinued as the base for milk prices nation wide and the CME base price for class 111 milk became the base for milk prices, federal orders and subsidies etc. As in all commodities the subsidies cover bushels, lbs, tons, CWTs acres etc. and not people. There are stop gaps in maximum size that can be used to set upper limits for subsidies and that hits milk production pretty quickly as farmers don't have separate coolers, tankers etc. Many very large crop operations create multiple ownerships and LLCs so they can cover all their acres and not hit the maximum for their farm. Have federal programs helped or hurt agriculture in the USA? Most politicians want the revenues coming into their states so that is the main driver for continued federal farm program support on the farm level. As to SNAP the food program which is the larger portion of the farm bill the grocery associations of the USA are the biggest proponents of these funds as all those monies travel through their grocery stores.

I basically quit drinking milk and have cut back on most dairy products because I have a love/hate relationship with milk...
I love milk... It hates me. Lol

I was surprised how cheap a gallon of milk was a couple of weeks ago at our local grocery store, $1.35 gallon. I know we were paying over $3.50 gallon several years back. There is a small dairy near where I grew up and the lease or buy all the corn fields they can get their hands on.

I was surprised how cheap a gallon of milk was a couple of weeks ago at our local grocery store, $1.35 gallon. Milk has been $.98 (98 cents) a gallon for a long time at three of the grocery sores in my area. Last week, for some reason, it went up to $1.59 a gallon
