That's gonna be a local question. You could search craigslist in your area for or ask around to taxidermists and see how many are offering that service and what they're charging.

For what it's worth, I would likely pay someone for the next buck skull I want done. Simply because I tried putting my last one a hole in the woods and a bear made off with it.

My brother has made a good living cleaning skulls and bones but is always looking for another market as it can be small at times. I would suggest starting off small and work from there. Once you start making connections then you can expand.

I'm not sure Keith but for the first time I seen an advertisement in the bargin shopper for skull cleaning the other day. I believe he is Amish and offers it done chemically, boiling or with beetles.

I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

I think if their is a lot of deer hunters around where you live you might make some money their. I personally like the euro mounts. $125 compared to $400. They make the antlers look bigger. Maybe get a couple of other skulls ( beaver, coyote, etc.) cleaned and advertised. If it is legal in your state I'd say some good advertisement might get you some business.

Local guy here did my otter skull last year for $20, gets $50 for deer. He does it with beetles. Not sure how busy he is though.

What was the turn around time for getting your skull back?

It was a few months, He said it would be a bit because it was off season (late March). Not sure what regular season turnaround would be.

It's an okay way to spend some winter hours and maybe make a few dollars. You won't make a living at it, or even come close to be honest.

I have a amish guy near me that cleans deer skulls and mounts them to a oak or walnut board for $40.00.

Kieth, my buddy was never really an avid hunter or trapper at all. About 5 years ago he started dabbeling in it and had the beetle setup and all. He put business cards at butcher shops, Taxidermist’s etc. he built a dedicated shed last year. He does well for extra income. I was just there last week, he had elk, gators lots. I think people are done paying $500 unless it’s a great deer. Word and hunting circles travel fast. He raised his price from $90 to $125 this year, which I thought was too much but I don’t think it’s slowed him. After initial $$$ I don’t think you have much costinto it?

My nephew is a taxidermist and he has beetles. He is all of 100 bucks if not more. Plus when there done he bleaches the shulls so they are real white.

In Oregon I sold nearly every skull I had even muskrat. Beaver skulls sold 20-30 and an otter skull I sold for 80. I just macerated them.

You may check the local Taxidermist and see if there is any intrest. I know a guy here that had a bunch of the beetles and did a lot for the local taxidermist as well as private also.

It is what it is.
