I have a couple. Work real good for me. I buy Naptha by the quart to use in them. It easily lasts for 12 hours. Takes a couple uses for the catalyst to get "broken in."

I've got 2 of each of these. Didn't pay much for them on sale.Charge through the USB port on your computer. No odor.

It is very close to Zippo fluid. Looks and smells the same. It works in lighters and hand warmers the same. If you're only using it while hunting and fishing in the cold it should last you at least a season or two. Zippo fluid is about a buck an ounce. A quart (32 oz) of naptha is about $7-10. I've been using it for a couple years now with no problems.

Been using just about every hand warmer made in the last 45 years. Use them in my big mitts to warm hands after working a trap or dog team which can happen a hundred times a day. So experience is with them kinda enclosed all day as opposed to in a pocket, and moving and banging around and in different positions. The Zippo type were just not that dependable and hard to deal with when they would go out. I needed something to start in the morning and go at least half the day dependably. Did the charcoal sticks for years and they were steadier but cases would wear out and messy to clean. Finally settled on the disposable heat packs which were very dependable and handled roughness and compact and flexible in mitts Just bought 2 new rechargeable hand helds which are cheap and sized like the Zippos. They get plenty or too hot on high and last good and promising but the test of time is yet to be seem. I'll have it figured by the time I go.

I tried the Zippos's years ago but didn't like the smell or the irritation they caused on my skin when in my pocket. I switched to the charcoal sticks and liked them much better but had the same issues as you. I then switched to the disposables and still use them.

One issue to be aware of with the disposable hand and foot warmers; they have a shelf life. I had some at camp that were years old. I took them with deer hunting one morning and about mid-morning when I started to get cold I tried to use them but they never got warm.

Eh...wot?

You can buy Naptha at any hardware store or Lowe's and Home Depot.

Best hand warmer I know of is a second pair of gloves/mitts shoved in the front of yer pants. Switch em out as needed. As a kid my pop could keep me going all day with this system. Side note, when I typed “yer” it auto corrected to “her”, which also works.

I have a zippo one but the fluid and waiting time I've just kept it on the shelf.

Here is my answer to a handwarmer:

LL Bean Buckskin Choppers... never be cold again:

Tip: Put "Snoseal" on them, blow dry with hairdryer to work it in.
