So I picked up some victor # 1 and 2s at a garage sale the were galvanized butt looked to be in good shape I plan to use them for mink in pocket and blind sets in pretty murky water should I clean them off with a wire wheel and dip them , spray paint or leave them as is

I should specify these were spray with cold galvanized not dipped

Set the traps and dont worry about ,.....set more tomorrow ,....feeling energetic ,....set more!


there is one concerning factor in all this ,....set traps!

Zinc coating sounds like a good idea; chewing would remove some of it.

Cold galvanizing is not galvanizing -- but as stated "set the traps". cold galvanizing is more like rattle can paint, it does provide some protection. Until this year most of mine were not even painted, but i think painting will make them last a few more years especially with our willamette river water. If you don't like what you are seeing on them in a year or so --dip in vinegar and then use whatever your preferred method of coating is. Now get out there and catch every nutria in the willamette valley -- i am getting tired of doing it all
