So I picked up some victor # 1 and 2s at a garage sale the were galvanized butt looked to be in good shape I plan to use them for mink in pocket and blind sets in pretty murky water should I clean them off with a wire wheel and dip them , spray paint or leave them as is

I should specify these were spray with cold galvanized not dipped

Zinc coating sounds like a good idea; chewing would remove some of it.

Cold galvanizing is not galvanizing -- but as stated "set the traps". cold galvanizing is more like rattle can paint, it does provide some protection. Until this year most of mine were not even painted, but i think painting will make them last a few more years especially with our willamette river water. If you don't like what you are seeing on them in a year or so --dip in vinegar and then use whatever your preferred method of coating is. Now get out there and catch every nutria in the willamette valley -- i am getting tired of doing it all grin
