1 I’ve called them from the first day of the season till the last day.
2 I’ll go anytime it’s over 20 degrees or so. I’m sure they’ll come out in colder weather, but I do t seem to have as good luck when it’s colder.
3 Your looking for den trees. The top type of den tree around here is a cottonwood. Maples and sycamores can also be good. Don’t overlook brushpiles, abandoned houses, and barns.

You might try the search feature. There has been several good threads on Coon calling in the past several years.

Today is the first day of deer season, as well as coon season. Temps in the high 50s this after noon. Went out during noon time and hit 4 den trees, One tree had 4 coons come out, got 3 and didn't see where the 4th went. Another tree produced one. The other two dens nothing came out. About the only time I haven't seen them come out is in high wind and low temps. Had them sit in the den entrance and look to see what was going on, but wouldn't come out.

Coons actually opened yesterday. 3 kills from one den that's pretty sweet

Wind and clothes doesn't matter, i was in hunter orange today. Have to while deer season is on. Main thing is get set up before you turn on he caller. If they see you move, they will not come out.

Anybody use coon squaller mouth calls for hunting coon at den trees or are you better off with an electronic caller? I have no experience calling them and didn’t know if the squallers work for that or if they’re just to get them to look at you at night when hunting with dogs.
