Had 12 crop damage tags to fill this season so I got my old faithful friend out of the gun safe. Hadn't hunted with him for 4 years . After 2 DRT/ NTR shots and one only taking 4 steps wondered why I ever put him away, Love this little 6mm rifle that I bought at the age of 13 back in 1979. Trapped grey foxes and sit and watched dens at dark to pay for it. 204 bucks new in box....

Lots of calibers and guns out there, but my go-to deer rifle is a Remington Model 600 in 6mm. Lost track of how many deer I have killed with it. Took it out and shot it yesterday with my usual Remington Core Lokt 100 gr. factory loads. After 4 holes within an inch I said "Yep, good enough."

Remington 700 BDL . Moose trot I used 100 gr corelockt for a while but had some deer run into thick cover. Killed a truck load of deer with this rifle using 87 grain spritzer hand loads. Same round I use on ground hogs.

Oh yea I bought it in 1979 not 1999. LOL wish I was that young !!!!!! Had to edit original post to change date

I don't handload at all. The success I have had with the factory loads is good enough for me. Bought/traded for mine out of a pawn shop in 1988. Been my deer gun ever since.

jbyrd63- Was your rifle new in 1979?

I have a .22-250 Rem 700 that looks a lot like yours. I bought it used in 1990. I've taken deer with it using a 70 gr Speer bullet, sort of a .243/6mm "lite" but primarily its supposed to be a yote gun.

Yes bought it in 1979 new in box. 204 dollars which was a lot for a 13 year old kid. I had 4 northwoods 1 3/4 traps that I ran before school. I also would find grey fox dens and sit until dark and shoot them as they came out. I think I was getting 30 dollars a piece for them.
It has a K-6 weaver scope the only scope ever put on it. Back then weaver was highly rated just under leaupold and redfield. I think they went under shortly after it.

The second year I had it me and my Dad drove around on sunday afternoons in the summer and shot ground hogs. The first full summer we killed 226 confirmed kills. (pick them up and throw them out of fields) Countless more shot and got back into hole. Back then there wasn't any coyote in this part of the country. Ground hogs were everywhere........

bought my last 700 bdl in .22-250 in 89 for 300 on sale at gunshop,,sold it for 300 also ...neighbors didnt like hearing that cannon in this part of the country. Actually had one come flying up the road to see what was going on. It was great on the prairies of the Dakotas but wasnt well liked here. Same caliber caused glen sterling to lose his hearing. He was same as me,,no earplugs

Those old K model Weaver scopes were darn good ones no mater what rifle you put them on.

I used my dad's 700 ADL 6 mm to take down 4 deer on a nuisance permit years ago. 87 gr. softpoint. 3 dropped in their tracks & the other 1 took about 5 steps before going down. I was very impressed with it. When dad retired & moved to Fl he sold it to my son for a 'song'. Also had the Weaver 2-7 on it. Bought my 700 BDL Deluxe in '72 or '73 .270. NIB for $140. Was retailing for $175. Put a Bushnell Banner on it & have taken a truckload of deer with it. I think my son 'retired' dad's rifle about 2 years ago.

Hmmm, my first rifle was a 700 BDL .243. If I'm not mistaken I paid $300 total, gun new in box and a Weaver 3x-9x widefield scope, rings, bases and all. It's been a good little gun!!!

I knew a guy that had the same rifle. He’d sit on one side of the Cumberland River and head shoot em on the other side. I sure like my .222 BDL. I bought it around 1990.

Rem 700bdl owner here.
Dead nuts accurate. Very small groups.

If you miss , you cannot blame the rifle. You have to blame the person behind the stock.

Added 2 more this morning to the 6mm total kills. Both of these are going to be donated to hunters for the hungry. I got 5 more damage tags to fill this week.

Used my rem 788 in 6mm to connect with a deer this weekend. Handloads using Barnes 85 gr. tsx.
Many, many deer taken with this recipe. Love the 6mm!
