I have never used mice but they should work just fine. Try some fish, muskrat, beaver, eel, shrimp, and or mink also if you have it.

Mink do funny things. Last year I had 2 pop their head thru holes in muskrat colony traps.

Well guys. I have been waiting to post this for quite some time now For a few reasons, my mink season wasn't very good and I never came close to my goal. For starters, I hurt my knee a little back on early Sept and didn't go see a doctor. Partly because I have a mowing business on the side and, secondly, I knew trapping season was starting as soon as the mowing season ended for me.
Fast forward to mid December and I knew I wasn't going to hit my goal lartly due to mother nature and my lack of success. So shortly after that I started targeting coon more than mink. Then, I believe it was late Dec when I stopped to check a couple of traps after work on my way home. Low and behold, I slipped down a somewhat treacherous creek bank and bent my right knee all the way back. I definitely felt that. Lol A while later, I started to have a gimp/limp. And it got worse. So I schedule an appointment with an orthopedic doctor on Fri, 1/31. He says I probably tore my mcl. Then the next dayI stepped down into a small creek on my right leg first. By the time I got home, it hurt so much I actually cried for a few minutes. I think I it was partly from the pain and knowing I screwed up my knee even more. Then the following Tues I I slipped on a piece of fat while tossing my coon carcasses away at a hog barn compost pile. That was I believe what did me in. I literally crawled into the house and upstairs to shower and change clothes before I went to my physical therapy appointment.
Fast forward to last Friday and I had an MRI. Results came back Monday afternoon and i scheduled an appointment with the doc today. Needless to say, I have bone adema, a torn meniscus and a slight fracture. My mink season was cut short by at least a month but now I can get on the road to recovery sooner rather than later. Surgery is scheduled for March 12th.

Man that's a bummer. Well you did way more than I did and I appreciate the information.
I geared up to handle coons next season so I'll be making a bunch of pocket sets with the intent of catching both.
Gives me time to buy new steel and get my doo-doo together. Fox's and yotes are on my list too.
I'm sending nothing but good vibes for a solid fix and speedy recovery to you.
Keep your boots dry and your powder too.
I remember when a fur check was reality.....now I'm just trapping for the love of it.
Best Regards,
JT

Mink do funny things. Last year I had 2 pop their head thru holes in muskrat colony traps. Indeed the #11 wire does work too, and in fact, it's much easier to work with. Hogwild, maybe while you're recuperating you might have time to modify the doors on those colony traps. Going with the #11 gauge wire, #14 to cinch the top of the V to keep it from sliding back up, and a little dish soap to make that piece of #9 gauge slide easier, it looks like this. Good luck to ya on healing.

Been wondering why I haven't seen any pics lately. Kick back and relax, Bud. You deserve a break, and it aint gonna kill you. Wonder no more! I sure do hate being a couch potato! Bad thing is that we've had some mink catching weather since I have been laid up.
