With a failing bad catalitic converter, would idling over 5 minutes or should shut it off when checking traps be better ? Or does make a difference in idling an chance plug up? It been replaced 2 years ago with cast iron manifold. Performance is normal, just check engine lite on

Have you tried just clearing the code? Sometimes the check engine light just comes on because some sensor somewhere didn’t like the weather.

I never shut my truck off at stops. Its harder on the starter and may use more gas restarting it than letting it run.

Coonman; usually the O 2 sensor, Oxygen sensor gives a false reading. Don't over think it, and keep on trucking

If your converter is warm and your O2 sensors are properly functioning the amount of time you said your setting idle will not affect it. Are you sure you code is for the converter?

My engine light was on over 2 years before I had to get some repair work done on it. Figure I spend and $500-800 a year on maintenance, that’s $66 a month...can’t buy a new truck that cheap. It’s a 2000 F150 with 423K+ miles. Just use it as my hunting/trapping truck. My mechanic actually thanked me for bringing it in before trapping season started, said he has to park it away from other cars...something about the ungodly smell coming from the back.
