Finally got my go to 20 plus year old deer rifle back in service. Summer 2018 had my trusty 30-378 Weatherby re barreled with a 31” custom barrel. The factory 26” produced a fireball every time the trigger was pulled and I knew it could preform better with a longer tube. With loads over 100 grains of slow burning powder calculated the need length. I’m amazed at what a good gunsmith can do. Loaded up some rounds today based on his specs and took it to the range to zero. First 180 grain projectile at 3400 fps I’m impressed. 7 rounds only a 3 fps deviation now I’m getting excited. Then after the initial fouling shot fired 2 rounds 1 1/2” high 1/2” left both holes touching. Made adjustment 2 more rounds 1/4” high both holes within 1/2”. 1 click down 2 rounds dead bull both holes touching. Now I’m ready for the opener Saturday.

Opener of what ... Dino season ????? Or don't you have a meat grinder ?? Don't get me wrong , I am happy for you as a good shooting rifle is a thing of pleasure. I am just wondering what makes you hate deer so much that you would point that thing at them and pull the trigger ??

Let's go Brandon

i think he hates tracking deer . but wow 3400fps 180gr

but seriously I just ran the numbers , your 30-378 is moving as fast with a 180 at 500 yards as my 308 is at 100 yards , that wow.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Awesome Turk.

I have a friend with a 32 inch barreled 7mm doing unbelievable numbers. He had some bullets blow up from the speed but found some that dont. He still gets some flame out the end and has a longer barrel ordered.
