GFW recently announced they have ex NAFA Dave Bewick hired in Canada and now FHA has just posted on their website they have Winnipeg NAFA facility + some key staff. That place handled western Canadian fur including those top quality yotes.

Be interesting now to see what happens with Stoughton and staff, unless I missed something, between FHA and GFW.

Maybe GFW should buy the NAFA name.

Who would want a name like that after what they just pulled? Be a black eye to the rat wagon gang.

Yup trap sales to continue according to the release.

Edit - press release says trap supplies will be under its Trans Canada Trapline Store which is the same one they have in North Bay.

That would be like Fword bringing back the Edsel moniker.

Well actually the trap sales were run by Mary S as a service to the trappers and the sales proceeds went to the Manitoba Trappers Association .before this
It is good news that Darcy will be grading western coyotes.
Seeing that 1/2 the coyotes bought from one buyer are dressed in Winnipeg makes a good move.

I feel you are wrong. If you look at $'s numbers, Wild fur was the extra baggage. NAFA just gave out too much money. It happened to be to the mink ranchers. Wild fur is a drop in a bucket compared to ranch fur. There were more ranch mink than all the wild species combined and they averaged way more. I know some think wild fur will sky rocket now that the ranch mink are knocked back in number. I feel there will be country buyer that get out of the game and also manufactures that used both wild fur and ranch. I can not see how anything good can come of NAFA shutting down.

I see it as the largest car dealer in the country stopping selling new cars. Is the price of used cars going up? Wild fur and ranch fur are not the same thing, just like new and used cars. The main problem with the fur market is no demand. No one is fighting to buy wild or ranch fur. The coyote market is strong, but that should fall before long. I am shocked it has stayed strong this long. People can live with out fur. Someone will pick up the slack, but that won't make a demand.

Some of the traveling buyers up here have not heard that. I hear of coyotes on the round going for up to $100. As I said I am shocked it lasted this long.

Baggage? Look at what broke them. It wasn't wild fur.

To add fuel to the rumor mill, I understand that Groenewold's hired one of the former NAFA auctioneer's. Could we see another auction being birthed??

Why would Groenwald want to get into the auction business. Seems to me it would be more headache and less profitable than his current set up.

Little chance of losing their own money if consigned compared to buying it themselves and trying to turn a profit?

It is all on the edge of what will happened. For the time of the year this is taken place dose not give many places to work out what they will do mainly. If it would of happened in June or around that time then we all know more what will happened with the other places. ll we can do is ride it out for how I see it. I know we will feel it one way or another for what happened with NAFA. Just like we did when they did a job on the coon market and see how that turn out.

You are EXACTLY correct. NAFA sold out to the canadian mink assn. in 1992. How much effort do you think mink ranchers are going to support wild fur? NONE. But they sure as heck didn't have any problem chunking multi millions into more and more ranch mink.Take a look at who all "retired" at nafa in the last two years. That tells the story.
Now if you think the demise of mink are going to be a boom for wild fur think again. Millions upon millions of mink skins are in the pipeline and it will take years (if ever) to clean up the mess the mink industry created. However I believe we will see a slight improvement in moving wild fur.Lets hope so.
Based on what i read in FFG I think we should all sell our fur to Gary Schroeder. Not sure what that forecast is all about.
Sorry! Gary is a friend but ???
