I picked up a nickel?? Plated victor #3 long spring trap. I’m just wondering if anyone knows anything about it. Is it from the factory that way or was someone bored one day and had it nickle plated??

When Animal Trap Comp. (Woodstream Corp.) stopped making traps, 1999-2000, They chrome plated some traps of different types and gave them out to some of the employees. Not positive that is what your trap is but likely is. I have a #1 Oneida Jump that is crome plated and I have seen a few others.

Interesting. I had a pile of brand new #3 pans just like yours that were bright nickel. I always wondered what the story was on them.

I have nothing clever to put here.

I worked in a plating shop for over 30yrs and over the years I plated quite a few ,lots of new victor 220s zinc plated for coon never had to dye would not rust the only problem I had was the springs would break in the pickling process all were done copper then tin and olive color dye did a bunch of Northwoods 11/2 copper nickle chrome . did a few gold plated #0 victor l/s for a guy wish I could find them . who ever did that #3 had to take the trap apart and buff after the copper plating to get it that shinner with the nickel chrome on top.

that #1 jump was not apart because of the chrome burn around the spring and no coverage around the rivets on the base
