I check every time before selling and I have a call into our warden now and a call into the New York warden to make sure it’s still ok with both states. Last sold a small one for $93. I suggest checking with your state fish and game.

It's illegal to sell them here in AK.

330 that reason is just plain silly. I live in Idaho and have sold a lot of galls. They usually go for somewhere between $10 and $20 an ounce. I pack them out but I sure don't get rich. I can't imagine anyone risking fines and losing their license for that amount of money. I don't understand states that don't let you use all parts of an animal.

My VT warden just called and said it was ok to sell and transport to NY as long as NY state regulations allow it. I am waiting to hear back from the NY warden she is checking to make sure its still ok. NY just passed a law a couple weeks ago that you can’t bring whole deer into the state to be processed it has to be deboned first. My meat cutter isn’t happy he’s in NY and said they passed the law in the middle of hunting season and he was going to loose 20-30 thousand dollars because of it.

Used to sell bear gall and claws at FHA before they changed the law.Illegal now to sell bear parts not made into jewellery. You are not even allowed to posess a bear gall here.Has to be left with the gut pile. Last time I checked it was still legal to sell the gall and other parts in Quebec and Manitoba. Not sure about other provinces. When we sold bear gall, they wanted them tied off with string before removing from the liver. Then in order to retain the bile, they wanted the gall blanched in boiling water to seal before drying. If I remember correctly I believe the rate was around $5 a gram.A decent gall would be 20 gm or more.

Alaska regs on selling bear parts have changed over the last 10 years. Some parts can be sold. Some parts can be sold if the bear is from certain GMUs. Currently no selling of gall. Fluid can be powdered crushed and taken as a remedy for muscle soreness. mt

That market is why Most States have banned the sale...to slow down poaching. Yep an the reason Northern Snakehead are in U.S. waters and some subspecies of rhinos are in danger of extinction and the list goes on. Any time a monetary value is placed on animal parts, especially when the value is inflated by some moronic belief it has magical powers to make Wanka’s Willy stand up and pay attention, there will always be greedy people willing to kill every last one of which ever species has the price on it’s head. As far as some Outfitters “not willing to risk their licenses “ there have been a number of high profile convictions involving hundreds of critters and hundreds of thousands of dollars in recent years that prove otherwise. The Dinosaur Monument hunting club in north western Colorado near Maybell comes to mind. Heck there was even a bigshot outdoor show host and TROPHY whitetail slayer that was spotlighting the TROPHIES that were his claim to fame. SundanceMtMan nothing silly about it. Greed is a human condition that not everyone can resist.

You are talking about things that a poacher can get thousands of dollars for. A bear gall usually sells for less than $100. I realize you can't stop all idiots but if judges and the courts would crack down on these guys it would put a dent in illegal trade. Most in my area just get their hands slapped. If you make people show a license when they sell that would help. In Idaho I don't believe we have a large problem with selling poached items, we have a huge poaching problem but just for meat and the thrill kill. As sportsmen we could help with the problem by turning in poachers and not congratulating people on unethical harvests. The future of all hunting, fishing and trapping depends on all of us.
