One of my fox this morning, a young male, was bit up pretty bad on the butt. I figure it was another fox because a coyote would have killed it. At first I thought it must have happened while he was caught and couldn't properly defend his flanks. Thing is there was no blood on him despite pretty deep wounds and there was no sign of another critter at the set. Also, there is another set a few feet from where I caught him. Chances are real good I'd have caught the other critter or at least seen sign if there would have been a knock-down, drag-out fight going on there last night. What do you guys think? You can see infection setting in.
Eh...wot?

Pull some hair from his anal area and stick it in the remake.

I doubt it was a bird of prey.
I'm pretty sure it was another fox, I've seen this many times. What makes this different is I don't think it happened while he was caught in my trap. Most times I'll catch the other fox in my other set a few feet away (I always set at least two, often times three and sometimes four sets close together for this very reason).
Also, there was no blood on the fox or on the ground at the set. No sign of another critter either but it was a dirt two-track so there might not have been sign in the hard ground.
I think it happened somewhere else.

That was most likely a coyote Ol' Smoke, I've had them do that do reds. They grab them and shake, break their backs/necks same way a dog kills a groundhog.

This morning I caught one in the set a few feet away from where the bit up one was yesterday. Another young male.
