Lighting is not so good,or its my older camera.But you can still see how to do it.Gibb from fur harvesters enlightened me to this,did almost a 1000 reds this way,and most were very easy.This grey does not belong to me,and was in the freezer for at least 3 months.Fleshed 2 nutria also today,cleaned out the last of the fur today.

Inovative method. I never had skinned out the ears but I once had some fur slippage on reds when I tried to dry them indoors, early in my trapping carrer. How do they dry out?

I've tried that with reds and greys - what can happen if you are not careful is the ear skin rips and half of the ear skin stays on the ear cartilage and you are left with a pelt with a half an ear. Not a big issue if you pin whats left forward on the pelt to cover the ear hole. They do dry out very fast and stay forward after the pins are pulled out unlike if you leave the cartilage in. After reviewing the video again I see that the same thing that happens to me happens to Phil. If you'll notice the very tips of the ears really hang on to the cartilage and they rip off leaving the tops of the ears on the carcass.

Most go well,but the ones that don't have all the ear,I really highly doubt it matters at all.Of coarse I could be wrong.I believe it is far better this way than have ears taint,and many,many do with the cartilege in,but than agian,ears,are ears,how much does it count.

No doubt, Phil. All I was trying to say was for someone doing it for the first time don't be alarmed if all the ear skin doesn't come off the cartilage. Really not that big of an issue, just pin them forward. Thanks for the video posting and good luck with the chickens! I raised some chickens and turkeys last year and ended up giving them all away although I did get a few eggs from the chickens.
