I have nothing clever to put here.

Keep em dry as much as you can, for as long as you can. Wet will suck the heat out of calves and make them sick or just kill them.
Udder tech makes jackets for calves, waterproof nylon shell insulated with thin sulate. I have a pile of them, love them in bad weather. Keep the calf dry and warm and they just do better.
I have a strain of black with speckled faces, probably been going on twenty five years or more. Terrific cows throwing really good calves, both strong and independent with good size and friendly temperments.

Thanks for all the advice, comments The heifer was very aggressive, nursing within the first hour. Today I got the pair into the loafing barn...actually they were in there on their own when I ckecked them this morning... The Bull was in there with them... he's stayed close...but now he's out and they're in. *** Sharon, her middle name will be slingshot!!! Ha ha Ha , promise. Jbyrd, We have 10 Now.

Here in western Oregon sheep have been lambing since early October. Not late, early.
My fear of moving stairs is escalating!

You keeping her back? I had one two years ago way early and just kept her as she was not the same size as my other calves. Bred her around 18 months and she calved out a nice bull calf for me two months ago. I still have a knot head cow I am waiting on.......she is either gonna calve soon or die.......she will probably wait for it to start raining.... I just turned Trump (our bull we borrow) in tonight with my massive herd of 8. I shoot for calving around Sept 1 and then just sell calves off in April when I move my cows back down the road to the farm I rent. My small herd justifies having my tractors/balers so I can put up hay. Well, not really, but at least I am not paying near as much in taxes every year cause I am a broke farmer.
