I am curious how many people cook a wild turkey they shot either this past spring or this fall for thanksgiving? We do store bought as I don't turkey hunt. I would expect a fair share of people on this forum will be cooking their own birds.

It usually doesn't last that long. The turkeys I have shot usually don't make it to the freezer.

Same here, now maybe if they would open a fall season....

Ish. I quite shooting turkeys just because they taste like crap. I'm not feeding those dumb corn buzzards to anyone I even remotely enjoy.

They do a number on a dead pile though. Yep buzzards. I/m done eating buzzards.

Toss a ham (or even beaver...or both together) in the crockpot. That's eating.

Too each his own, however.

If I weren't the worlds worst turkey hunter I would be eating a wild bird, but not on Thanksgiving, we have squirrel.

I ate one almost every year for a dozen years or so. We had a fall season in California and I had a good spot. The fall hunt can be a lot of fun but very different.

The sandwiches the day after were my favorite part.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone.

Pete.

Yep, have a wild turkey dish of some kind every Thanksgiving. Venison is always on the menu as well.

I killed one the last day of the Pa season and ate it two days later.

6 or 7 in the freezer. We are at my daughters in Florida so are having ribs (on the smoker now) and steaks. Turkey will wait until Saturday.

Ours don’t last through Spring. If you eat wild turkey you’d never by that store bought bird again. Wild turkey is WAY better, more flavor and juice.

I always bone out my wild turkeys . I bone out the entire turkey not just the breast . beer batter and deep fry the strips of meat. Most time its lunch or supper that day .
