Having a brain fart here. Are the number of risers the same as treads for the calculation?

Total run is 72", or a little more.
Total rise is 82" from floor to floor.

I have my idea how this will be. Want to hear you guys thoughts/

Yes is the answer, but make your stair jacks and cut the depth of a tread off the very bottom one to make it come out right.

Stairs are easy, and it takes time, paitience and perserverence, and not just a little accuracy with tools. There is no sense rushing it, especially at my wage, lol.

Thanks Les, now to hunt up my Sota to hillbilly translator decoder cheat sheet lol.
Jacks = stringers?
I'm thinking from not counting ONE floor as a tread was my mistake.

Some more info.
2x10 Doug fir all.
Closed stringers with glued cleats.
Open risers.
16 penny ring shanks and sinkers.

Billy that thing told me 99 risers.
Obviously I'm not educated in that format.

Easiest way I know is a framing square and points.

Run your calculations and set your points on rise and run, mark and cut your stringer long for error and adjustments.

Make adjustments at top and bottom for tread and level.

Jacks equal stringers, lol.

I use a construction calculator, but I used to use long hand division and convert to inches. lol I still can.

I use square nuts on my framing square to hold things fast.

82" of run is 11 risers at 7" apiece plus the remainder of 5" divided by those 11 risers, minus the first tread after all is said and done. 5/11" added to each riser would do it.

X 2

But it's too early to be thinking that hard, still on my first cup of coffee. And I gotta figure if I can fit a couple of 10 pound fox on large boards because I'm running out of small ones...

Eh...wot?

Don't count either landing as a step.

Edit. I got 7.04" x 11 for risers.
7.02"x 10 for treads.
Now these treads are small BUT, with open risers I can move them back into stringer AND, nose hang over.
Sound right?

I'm a framing square guy too.
I have speed squares, they are dangerous.

Not doing this today.
Just early morning pondering since I dragged all my scaffold plank into the cellar for the winter.

7.4" maybe, not 7.04.

11 risers is 77", plus 5" left over.

You're right Les, nice catch. 7.4x11=81.4
I can juggle the total run to make it even.

The existing is 1" oak, sawn stringers, and only 2 stringers. YIKES lol.

I have confidence now, thanks guys.

Yes but if you put a solid backer across the upper ends of your stringers you have one more riser than tread if you calculate finish floor to finish floor or have I missed that reading above?

Maybe, or you'll need to shorten the length of the top tread the depth of the backer if it's landing height.
